In Tarot, the Star symbolizes hope, inspiration, generosity or serenity.
A black star may be the reverse. From learntarot.com;
There are no separate explanations for reversed cards. The meaning of a reversed card depends on what the card would mean if upright. A reversed card shows that a card's energy is present, but at a lower level. For some reason, the energy cannot express freely, normally or completely. It may be:
-still in its early stages
-losing force and power
-blocked or restricted
-incomplete
-inappropriate
-being denied
-only present in appearance
In Quantum Tantra the color white is representative of 'Thinglesness'. Thinglessness (white (all colors together)) is wrought with possibilities. Thus, black with the purple outline (high end of the visible spectrum) could be representative as trapped in form or concrete negative identification.
Perhaps, somehow, some negative force is solidifying into form, abbreviating other possibilites. Is there any situation in your life or those around you, a situation of open possibilites, that is slowly fading or constricting? Your dream may be symbolizing you are approaching a point of no return.

That could be my spiritual development in general, as it's still developing as I overcome various blocks and obstacles.

I don't quite understand that. Possibilities trapped in a negative form? And what is Quantum Tantra? I haven't heard of that before.

I can't think of anything right now like that, except things that have been that way for awhile.
What do you think about the star "making people see what they had been ignoring" and the fact that I felt fine in the dream (excited, even) but uneasy upon looking at it now?
And the main thing I remember about the star is that its left and right points were elongated. Any thoughts about that?

Sorry, Quantum Tantra is pretty obscure. http://www2.cruzio.com/~quanta/qtantra1.html Forget about it. I was merely searching for an adaquate metaphore, and at the moment 'white as thinglesness' came closest. I will explore from a more general archtypal angle. I meant 'form' in the Buddhist sense.

Well, I'm not sure, but for analysis sake I will put out a few more thoughts.
If the dream was as realistic and had the impact that it seems to, perhaps what you experienced was closer to a vision. Visions are almost always personal, but can impart information concerning a group or groups or even all of humanity. 'People' in the plural indicates that it may not be strictly personal.
Traditionally a star is a beacon, a bright light in the heavens marking a direction or an event. A black star, however, cannot be seen. The very dark purple border is a bit of a mystery. IN a vision, the subconscious certainly could have you 'sense' a dark star without any bordering, as blackness on black, or some such, so I think the purple bordering must be significant. As a guess, I would reiterate that purple is at the edge of human vision, passing then into the ultraviolet. Also, purple is the color of the 7th chakra: http://members.rogers.com/wti/purplechakra.htm Taken together, it's possible this may point to a far-reaching (extended arms, connecting lines) spiritual event which only the already spiritually enlightened can detect. The extended arms could also relate to the opposite polarities of something.
In the open state of receiving a spiritual vision, such a portent could be very exciting - but on waking, the normal egoic consciousness could find an impending human spiritual evolution (?) very frightening. Again, just a guess.
Actually, human spiritual evolution is something I think about frequently. If your interpretation is right, I'll take it as a good sign.
I'll check out the Quantum Tantra link--looks very interesting so far.
Ultimately, I believe it is all good. This should not be confused with easy or enjoyable, however. The dark star may possess multilevelled symbology, also pointing to the nature of the spiritual evolution as a facing of darkness, specifically the darkness of opposites, perhaps symbolized by the wide-spread points.
I'm sure you have read of the widely prophesied 2012 'Demon War' - I suspect, merely by the prevalence of the myth, that perhaps there is coming a period of recognizing and coming to terms with the egoic mind, which is our seperation against and constant war with nature and each other, which could be an interpretation relating to your vision... but, obviously, that's just a wild unjustified theory.
Good luck!

Hello,
Do you feel comfortable enough to post it?
Cheers,
For me, stars are symbols of happiness and purple is the colour of fascination...mixed with black, it represents mystique. For everyone it's different...
Perhaps you could take each element one by one and see what they mean to you, then put them all together and come up with a collective meaning. [:)]
I don't often share my dreams with others, but this one intrigues me. Maybe you all have some ideas.
Last night I had a brief dream of a symbol. It was a star with elongated left and right points, and the points had small "tufts" where the lines met and extended. The star was black and outlined in a very dark purple.
I sat upright and yelled, "Wow! I had no idea that the star ..." and neither I nor my bf can remember what I said after that. I have a vague recollection that the star had the ability to make people see something they had been ignoring, but I'm not sure this is right.
It is unusual for me to talk in my sleep.
Does it sound familiar to anyone? Maybe it was just my mind making up a good story with a pretty picture, but I often have heavily symbolic precog dreams, so I try to pay attention to vivid dreams when they happen.
