had my first lucid dream

I was able to have a lucid dream, this was the first time I was able to do it.

I'll describe the background of it first, last night was pretty awful I didn't sleep at all due to anxieties about the day at hand. Finally at around 8 AM I decided I didn't have to go through my routine if I didn't want to, so I stayed in.

The sleep deprivation helped this a lot I think. I lay down, and sometimes I'd fall into a light dream, but then I'd find myself getting sucked into something. I felt intense pressure in my mouth area and it felt like something was beating the heck out of me and abusing me... some kind of astral creature. Three times I felt this attack within a 1 hour and a half time period, it was something bashing my head and hitting my body.

The third time, I decided that I'd allow this creature to keep attacking me. Then suddenly as I succumbed to its strike, I felt myself getting sucked in deep... as if it bashed me into the lucid state... then when I reached the other side, I could see in the dream world. I knew this was it... I pointed at a wall and caused part of it to burst into an explosion (always wanted to do that). Then I decided that I would fly. I jumped and flew out the window. I was floating above a bright beach-area with people laying down below. It was so peaceful. I noticed someone was flying with me and holding onto me tightly, it felt like he was like my training wheels & I felt very secure... I looked at his face and I thought 'Hey he looks like Hugh Jackman.' He was also singing to me... I can even remember how the song went.

Finally he let go to see if I could do it on my own, and I was able to fly by myself for a little bit. I remember smiling and laughing the whole time and being very thankful to the Hugh Jackman helper. I then felt it was over, so I woke up.

So it was nice to go through this experience. I know the lucid dream isn't a big deal like astral projecting or out of body experiences, but since this was a milestone for me I thought I'd write about it.

Next time if I reached this state again, how can I command myself to go out of body or have an astral projection? Is it just a matter of thinking about it?

Next time I would post this in the dream section. you will most likely get more responses in there. I'm interested though so I'll tell you what I think.

First of all you said Lucid Dreaming wasn't a big deal... Well thats all to do with what your focuses are upon. If you have your mind set purely on AP then having a Lucid dream won't be your goal, in which case it wouldn't be a big deal. However if you, like me, are open to any sort of experience then you should take it as it comes  Besides Lucid Dreams are pretty fun, who doesn't want to live out any fantasy they've ever conjured up in there minds??? Lucid Dreaming gives you that chance, It can also be used if you want to act out a real life scenario before it happens. e.g. Asking someone on a date.

I'm not too sure on the transition from LD's to AP's. If I was you I would have a try at conscious projection. Then again if you find it easy to induce an LD then just go for an affirmation of some sort.

Keep trying and you will get it all sorted . Peace, LL 8-)

Yep...of course as with most things in life...this is much easier said than done!

My current interpretation of all of this is that what people refer to as lucid dreams, OBE, astral projections, and other planes (mental, causal, buddhic, etc) are simply words used to interpret and describe varying levels of consciousness. So triggering a projection is simply a matter of *completely* shifting one's focus of attention on a specific goal. That means 100% of your attention/thought/consciousness needs to be focused on what you want to do. So the next time you get lucid and want to visit a person (incarnate or not), simply focus completely on that individual. If its a place you want to visit, same thing applies. In your mind imagine the place, the look of it, the feel it has to you and keep those thoughts solely in your mind to the exclusion of all else (that is the really hard part to do). If successful, you'll quickly find yourself in the place you wanted or with the person you wanted to visit nearby.

This is how I phase when lucid. I perceive the shift when I do this as follows: Within a few moments of focusing on the person, I perceive my surroundings whipping past me, although I feel completely stationery. There is a strong desire to 'glance' at what is passing you. Do NOT yield to this temptation. Doing so will immediately break the link you created and drop you where ever it was you were looking when your attention was lost. This is why fully focusing is the hardest part. Most people cannot focus on only one item to the exclusion of all other thoughts. This is something that I personally find impossible to do/practice while lucid. This is something that needs to be done as often as possible during waking hours. I find that as I make this my focus during waking hours, I become lucid more often, the lucidity is much higher than normal, and I'm able to remain lucid longer.

Hope this helps!
Reality is what you perceive it to be.

Dear Noob,

Very good.

You seem to have yourself a Spiritual Patron.. the 'Hugh Jackson' Character. this will be very beneficial for you spiritually.

You seem to have a good attitude toward Lucid Dreaming.  many Lucid Dreamers are obsessed with the New Age Propaganda about Absolute Control in Lucid Dreaming.  They use the impulse to Control in order to effectively destroy all of their Dreams, or as many as they can, and then to ignore every dream that they can't somehow ruin.

so, yes, the real Magic in Lucid Dreaming is the clarity of awareness and the Special Nature of the Content of our Lucid Dreams.  For instance, you getting a Flying Lesson and being introduced to one of your Spiritual Patrons.   You would have ruined all of that had you tried to 'control' everything away.

Don't get the wrong idea about Control.  it would be fine if the Higher Dream Mind would allow for it, but so often people who obsess on over-controlling their dreams will be plagued by False Awakenings, which is how the Dream Mind tries to shake off Lucid Dreamers who use their Lucidity only to attack Dream Content.

A lot of Higher Intelligence and Design goes into Creating a Good Lucid Dream, and so that Designing Intelligence may become quite resentful if the Dreamer rejects these Creative Designs simply for the indulgence of playing with 'control' -- pulling rabits out of hats in one's Dreams.

But there are some 'tips'.  Any Meditation done in a Dream will have almost instantaneous affect.  Especially the most basic Mantra AUM is very powerful and will often instantly summon the White Light. Also, Levitating and Flying from the Lotus or crosslegged sitdown position is a great deal more effective than the "superman" position.  Decades ago, in one of my first Flying Dreams, I was flying 'superman' style when I was accosted by a squadron of Sufi Dervishes flying on their Magic Carpets, all in that Crosslegged Sitting Postion.  They flew rings around me.  So I learned to adopt their position in flying and have never regretted it.

But if you should ever want to go into orbit -- break through the Atmosphere.  Then in your dream, rise up a bit and then go horizontal, as though laying on your back, and do an AUM.  doing that, I had shot up through the daytime sky until I reached the darkness and stars of outer space... but then, suddenly I broke out of the Dream Scene altogether and found myself floating several hundred yards up in the air over my village.

Oh, I used to love Dream Flying, but found that I was not able to maintain altitude, and would inevitably have to come in for landings.  I used to hate that, until I discovered that this was the Way my Lucid Dreams had of placing me into some very special and wonderful Dream Scenes.

So I guess the lesson is to do what you like, and try things in your Lucid Dreams, but remain open to the Wisdom and Messages that your Higher Dream Mind will certainly want to provide for you from within the Dream Content.  Like with everything else, it is a balancing act between being Active and being Passive -- Doing and Learning.
