My first LD

The key to you having had a LD was your interest first of all, and then the amount of sleep you had.  Supposedly, your REM periods come closer together and last longer the longer you sleep, so this is what happened to you.  If I want to LD I find that I have to sleep for at least 7-8 hours and have a strong intention or desire to LD when going to sleep.  Actually, I find that just simply wishing to remember my dreams will cause LDs.

I had my first lucid dream last night. I dont remember much of the dream, except the part where I became aware that I was dreaming. In my dream, I was rinsing dishes and loading the dishwasher, when I looked around the room... It was the house that I am living in right now, but the paint and the furniture in it were different than in real life. I looked around, noticed this... and began to think... "Hmm... This... this isn't me... This is not my house... Am I dreaming?" Then I thought, no, no I'm not dreaming... but I decided to test it. I held out my hand above the dishwasher and pictured a spoon flying out of the holder in the dishwasher and me catching it in my hand. It worked, and I dropped the spoon... I ran down the hallway of the house and into the laundry room. There was some sort of picture or wallhaning on the door to the garage that isnt there in real life. As I realized this was a dream... I had an amazing feeling, like all my responsibilities and restrictions of real life were gone and I could do anything I wanted and it would work. I had all sorts of ideas of what I could do, go flying, skiing, snowboarding, skydiving... anything that I'd be too afraid to try in real life. But, I couldnt make up my mind what to try... and the dream faded away and I went back to deep sleep. It was an incredible feeling though, and I really want to try it again so I could actually experience things I could never do in real life.

The day before this dream occured, I had only gotten 4 hours of sleep, from 2am to 6am, because I had to get up early to go to work with my dad. I was really tired by the time I got back home... but my dad didnt let me take a nap because he wanted me to sleep well that night. When I did go to sleep, I slept longer and deeper than I have in a long time. I didnt wake up to use the bathroom or anything.. and I slept from about 9:15-9:30pm to 10:40am this morning. Normally, I'm up watching TV until 1-2am and I sleep until 9am.

This is the first LD that I've ever had (or at least the only one that I can remember.)
Do you find that sleep deprivation the night before increases the chances of being lucid in a dream? Any ideas how to stay dreaming long enough to pick and try it before the dream fades out? Any advice or stories you could share with me about lucid dreaming would be great.
