Alpha state?
Yup... although, I'd more prominently call it "Astral Projecting".  :)

alpha is the worst state to be in for nonphysical activity

Why is that?
I've always believed that the alpha state is all that's really required for non-physical interactions.

Alpha state is a light to medium trance/meditative state.  Alpha is ideal for many of the less focused non-physical excursions like shamanic journeying, where you haven't shifted completely enough to experience the non-physical as your primary focus (ie F2 or F3).  You can use low alpha to get to F2 or F3 with proper experience.  But for most people you need at least high theta to get to F2 or F3.
