Title: How can I have dreams?(sorry if it breaks the rules a tad)
Post by: thereal_yeti on December 21, 2004, 14:21:33
Well I am going to ask a question.. not sure if its allowed but I will soon find out.

Does masturbation effect whether or not you have a dream?

What you eat does that effect it?

How can I remember/have more dreams?

Try waking up 2 hrs earlier than normal if possible. Also try some meditation perhaps before sleeping too. If you've got any energy work knowledge such as NEW energy ways, do a little of that before sleep also.

Practice recalling your dreams-BEFORE you even think about moving or doing anything else. Replay every component you can. Move forwards and backwards in the memory. gently hold onto each piece. And then attempt to find a key word or phrase that would remind you of the scene/sequence of events.

Then write it down. I suggest mindmapping as an alternate way of recording dreams as your recall won't always give you a sequence that makes sense. But the branches of a mind map would give it another kind of sense.

Above all get used to having a goal of having and recording dreams. Each night remind yourself of this.

There's more, but I'm not even a novice :-). So someone more expert can be more concise and add more to this.

Yes, masturbation prevents you form dreaming, so stop jerking off. Lol. Only messin.
Everybody dreams, its just that you dont recall, so you need to work on ways to remember em.
Like Telos said, keep a dream journal. Also, I find that reading it before I go to bed can help.
You should also use affirmations i.e whilst trying to go to sleep, keep mentally repeating "i will remember my dreams" so its the last thing on your mind before you enter the land of nod.
Good Luck

Thereal_yeti, You can do what karnautrahl, Telos, and fost500 said, as those are some good tips on better recalling your dreams. The point behind the majority of remembered dreams is to show us something we're not consciously aware of or acting upon. A very powerful way to understand the dream and bring about its goal is this:

1) What feelings does it bring about within me in the dream and how do I experience or react to this? Find the feeling in your body and then ask yourself where does this same feeling appear in my waking life (especially in the day or few days preceding the dream). This then gives you insight about what the dream is speaking about. Then you can ask yourself, "How do I experience or react to this in waking life? And what new information might the dream be trying to give me?"
2) What choices or actions within my life does this dream affect or bring about?
3) Is this my best scenario or would I prefer a different ending that makes me feel freer/happier/more empowered? What is the best ending you can think of?
4) If you have decided upon a new, more positive ending, sit quietly before bed and visualize the dream but with the new ending.

Masturbation helps you get to sleep and relax, it gets you in a drowsy state while still awake. I think it's excellent for dreams, just remember to clean up.

Anything which causes you to sleep uncomfortably can cause you to have dreams. For me, sleeping in off hours works for the first, few nights as dreaming occurs in the lightest phases. The effect quits when I get too exhausted.

When you have blue balls, swallow a box of diarrhetics with a gallon of water. If you wait until after your mad rush to the toilet to record the dream in your journal, then you will have already forgotten most of it.

Hi thereal_yeti,

my thoughts -

1) No.
Seems you may have fallen prey to typically religious "control the masses through sexually repression" type misinformation. You know - "play with it and it will fall off" or "keep doing that and you'll turn into some kind of monster" nonsense. What Tyciol said is quite true. Sexual tension is more likely to keep you awake than a good orgasm, be it either masturbation or a good bit of earth-shaking, bed-frame breaking, bonk-each-other's-brains-out sex! It's a very natural (and enjoyable) part of life. Don't be ashamed or worry about it.

2)Absolutely yes!
You will probably read posts from time to time from people who are convinced they were attacked by some foul negative entity through the night, where the reality is they probably shouldn't have eaten all those extra hot nachos half an hour before sleeping. If your stomach's having to work overtime digesting something heavy or spicy through the night, you ain't gonna sleep well!

3) I think Telos summed this one up the best.
A dream journal will help train your mind to recall. Keep one by your bed. You don't have to be super-detailed. If you wake up any time through the night, or first thing in the morning and you still have images of a dream in your head, quickly write down a few words to describe what you saw. When you read them back, your subconscious will fill in the blanks.

Sweet dreams :)
James.
