Hi talker,
Do you record your dreams?

Lucid dreams are dreams where you know you are dreaming, and can alter how the dream progresses. How can you have a lucid dream?

The first trick is to learn what your normal dreams are like, to understand their rhythm. Get a pad of paper to serve as your dream log, and write down what you remember each morning, no matter how scanty. You´ll find that the more you write down each day, the better you´ll remember your dream the next day.

The second trick is to build a dream-test into your normal, daily habit. One easy thing to do is to wear a watch. In dreams, nothing stays stable, so if you look at a watch twice, it´ll probably change in between glances. In reality, of course, watches don´t change like that. So if you make it a practice to glance at your watch occasionally during your waking hours, you´ll probably do that in your dreams, too. But in your dreams, you´ll find that it has changed, and that will make you aware of your dream state.

You can also look twice at signs or any other written word. Dreams will rarely if ever show you the same text twice.

Another way to induce a lucid dream is to interrupt your sleep. Studies have shown that if you wake up an hour earlier than usual, then go back to sleep, that you´re very likely to have a lucid dream in that last hour of sleep.

There are also devices that can help you dream lucidly. Most of us have had dreams that involved real life sounds - alarm clock noises, radios, or people saying things. In the same way, devices can cause a light or sound to go off at certain times. When you hear that sound, or see that light, you realize you´re in a dream and can then be lucid in the dream.

Even though you remember your dreams, it's important to record them in as much detail as possible and as soon as possible after you wake up.

When you journal an experience, and put images into words, you transfer the information from one side of your brain to the other. This literally changes the structure of your brain. Unrecorded, the experience exists as an intangible memory. But when recorded, it exists as a tangible account, something that can be concretely and explicity referenced.

Why is this important? Lucid dreaming is about bridging the tangible and the intangible. The more you record your dreams, the closer you bring dreams to tangibility.

This is the link I used to start remembering my dreams.  It worked very well for me.  I tend to write everything down rather than just keywords.  Sometimes I recall older dreams... that is amazing.

Hi talker

I have been LD'ing for many years and now it's second nature to me.  I find these days that I tend to wake up a few times throughout the night, in the early hours of the morning.  However, when I do this I often wake up slowly, and if I manage to catch myself "half-awake" in the "borderline dream state" then from this mental state I can invariably get back to sleep again and into an LD without too much trouble.

So you could try to do the same thing.  If you tend to wake up as I do early in the morning, then stay very still, don't move a muscle or open your eyes.  Relax and try to get into that "mind-awake body-asleep" or "borderline state". From there you can initiate a lucid dream.

The technique I use from the "borderline state" to initiate an LD is identical to an OBE exteriorisation technique (ie I float up and land on the floor).  By the time I'm standing on the floor I can usually see the bedroom, but it looks a bit grey.  Then I walk out of my bedroom and my vision invariably improves (usually to perfect clarity).

An alternative technique is just to visualize a scene and with a little concentration I suddenly find I am in the scene rather than "watching" it.

So in addition to all the useful info already given, you could try to catch yourself as you wake up.  For me it's a great technique!
