Lucidity during dreaming

Last night I had my 1st MILD. Ik went to sleep on my back (which I usually don't) and awaked because of the snoring sound I made. I recalled the dream I was in and felt asleep again after a short period. I entered the same dream which I had left a few moments before, but now I realized that this scene was the the one I had just dreamt of. I was standing with a girlfriend (who I do not know in daily life) near a lake and as soon as I knew that I was dreaming, I shouted "more lucidity". From that moment on the situation changed, the appearance of my girlfriend changed and the total scene faded. It felt like I had closed my eyes.... so I wanted to open them, even though I realized that it may end my dream, but I took the chance.... But I was right, the opening of my eyes also occured physical, so I woke up :(

Can anyone tell me what to do in such a situation? Should I have waited longer?

Thanks!

I dunno why your demand for more lucidity turned out in less lucidity. But i can assure you that you can close and open your eyes in LD-s as much as you want without ending the dream. I bet that you have read too much stories about how closing and opening eyes ends LD. I suggest you to re-train your brain to think that you NEVER lose LD when using your eyes  :D

I hope this helps. I have not tried it myself, because although i read many accounts how closing your eyes is bad, i have never had problems with that.

Nice avatar!

I find that when I'm lucid, if I concentrate on something quite intensely, it increases my lucidity.

I've had numerous OBEs where I shout "clarity" and it makes not a hoot of difference - in fact, it tends to hamper the experience.

Next time you are lucid, look at your surroundings and feel how real they are.  Embrace the scenery, look at colours and so on.  You may find it becomes even brighter.

Another thing you might want to try to hold the experience, is to breathe the experience into you.  This is basically taking a deep breath and holding it all within you.  Sounds a bit daft, but it works with me.

Good luck!
