is this a dream or what?

so a few years ago my friend passed away from a heart attack. he was navy special forces during the vietnam war. he would always tell me war stories. the night he died i asked out loud, almost like i was praying "Mike, can you please show me what it was like to be in actual combat" that night i had a dream. not sure if it was a dream or if i was seeing a memory of his. but what i can remember from the dream..

"I had my sniper rifle slung over my back and climbing a ladder. my heart was pounding and i was scared to death. i had no idea what i was doing, i got to the top of the ladder and over to the side. i could see something, not sure what it is. i pull my rifle up to my face and look out the scope..."

i don't know if i just can't remember anything past that, or if i woke up.

so...is that my mind thinking what combat would be like, or was that him sharing with me?

Seems like it could be anything. Could be him, or someone else showing you, or you accessing a shared memory, or a simulation.

I wonder, is the source that important? Seems like your question was answered

As in, someone came up with a situation and put you in it.
