hey all
just wondering if anyone has read the art of dreaming by carlos castenada and could verify any of the experiences depicted in the book. Anyways last night, actually this morning, i believe i passed the first gate described by castenada in his books. this gate is remembering to look at your hands in a dream (you must become lucid first to notice that you are dreaming), anyways, i did this and then played around in the dream, flying and what have you before i woke up. just wondering if anyone else has read this book and attempted to pass the toltec gates of dreaming, and how successful you have been especially with the ones that come after the first.

-Thoughts

The most important thing to remember about Castenada was that his books have been discredited.  Remember, he was a Professor of Anthropology and had published his books as though they were actual research field notes.  Peer review determined that they had been fabricated.

But we know that the Hand Trick in dreams works.  What happens is that Looking At Your Hands shows you the Health and Condition of your Spiritual Body, and it focusses one in Lucidity.  Carlos learned this from somebody, and used it in his book.  Lucky us.  But there is no way of knowing what he was simply making up as he went along.

Go to a library and look at some of his later publications... certainly don't BUY anything of his... we would not want to reward Academic Fraud... but if one looks at his more recent writings, then it becomes OBVIOUS beyond any doubt that he is just blowing it out his butt.

So, retire your interest in Castenada, and concentrate your attentions on more reliable literatures.  Hmmmmm.  Yes, that also may be a problem.  So much of the Literature is sensational and New Age... designed to excite promise.  The Unvarnished Truth is not good enough to sell books and book Weekend Seminars.

But here is a Webpage full of Scholarly Essays about Dreaming, some of which you will find to be reliable:

Proof?

How old are you?

It was a HUGE scandal at the time.

Just look look through those books.  Can you honestly BELIEVE that any of THAT is actual field research?

Google it.  I'm sure you will find numerous milestones to his perpetual disgrace.

well ...um no i wasnt around in the 60's so what. anyways i dunno i find his books really awe inspiring and they just make alot of sense to me. even if they are not based on actual events i still believe that they are filled with knowledge..although i suppose it could have been ripped from other texts or such, i just cant see him making up some of the stuff in there.... and the hands thing worked for me and also the glancing technique described in his book, so i guess what im saying is if it works for me why not continue???

Does it really matter to you personally if its not real field research? if you enjoy reading the books then what does it matter? especially if your getting real results from them.
