Your friend should seek professional help, that can be dangerous. They usually fall asleep while doing repetitive tasks.

What? Would it possible for both of you to elucidate a bit?

SilverSlider,

I have had fears of my own that will cause me to lose sleep.  I've seen at least three ghosts in my life, and they were not scary at all.  However, movies made me scared of them for awhile.  When I try to sleep on my back I tend to naturally project or at least fall into a state of consciousness in which I see things through my eyelids, hear people talking, feel them touching me, and many other things that can be scary.  I've had to force myself to overcome my fears, but I couldn't really tell you how I did that.  I know of one thing that seemed to help me, and that was to continually tell myself that everything is ok.   Another thing is to force myself to do the thing that causes so much fear until I'm no longer afraid.  Maybe a good bit of your friend's narcolepsy is due to fear.  I think he should make a strong effort at getting rid of his fears.  There are plenty of self-help books that concentrate on simply getting rid of fears.  Go to the bookstore and look for these and then use them.  I really believe that this is the answer you're looking for.

I have a question but first of all, for all of the people out there trying to lucid dream and seeing everyone else lucid dreaming just makes them sick, well listen to this. I have a friend who has narcolepsy and he lucid dreams every single time he dreams. We can feed him dream material and let him dream about it for 5 minutes, get him up and he'll tell us everything. Anyway, he can dream about anything except cars and he is afraid that freddy krueger is after him quite a bit; how can he conquer this? Just tonight a friend and I were talking to him about it and he slipped into a dream while he was talking so he was explaining the dream to us as he slept and it dealt with freddy krueger and his heart started beating really fast and shallow and was pretty scared. How can he deal with this? With the car thing, anytime we tell him he's in a car or if we just say "car" he throws up(in the dream)then wakes up. Tonight we kind of went out of control and said he was in a world of nothing but cars and the world was controlled by a chrystler labaron and he started caughing a lot in real life. He said he really wants to get over those two things, so maybe someone in here has a little insight about how this can be conquered. Thanks

Brad
