Title: need help remembering dreams!
Post by: Mystic Cloud on August 03, 2004, 01:32:23
First of she needs the will to remember then.
Then she could try hypnotic suggestions which means that
when she goes to bed she should relax herself as completely
as she can and after that stare fixedly with eyes closed at the
brow and repeat "I will remember my dreams when I wake up",
she can repeat something else a few times if she wants to,
the main point is to give signals to the subconscious that she
really wants to remember them.

Another important thing is that she should try to avoid moving after
she has woken up, this greatly enhances dreamrecall. If this is
not possible then move as little as you can. Try to immediately
recall the dream after you awake.

If this doesn't help either I advice to search on google for the REM
sleep cycle and then put a timer to go off in the middle of the night and in the middle of the REM sleep, this will certainly help.

If she's really interested in trying to remember and doesn't mind messing with her sleep cycle, trying setting the alarm at different times during the night.  Sometimes we remember a dream if we're woken up during the middle of it.

izanagi,
Have your girlfriend start her journal before she actually has her own first remembered dream. Have the journal conveniently located near where she sleeps. She can always place someone else's dream to begin her journal. The result will be the same, remembered dreams. I read in a book to even make up something to get started. I prefer the writing of someone else's dream. The journal will then take on a mind of it's own.[:)] Actually, by writing something, this tells the subconscious you are wanting more.

Let us know what happens.

It was pretty easy for me to develop dream recall. Every morning I woke up I just spent the whole morning (in the back of my mind) searching for a fragment. I usually found something within the first fifteen minutes. Tell her to reveiw the things she did the day before, where she went, and who she saw. When thinking of a good friend, you might suddenly remember a fragment of a dream that that friend was in. I have good recall now, although the ability has somewhat weakened recently. I used to remember at least 3 dreams a night, now it's at least one.

I started to remember lots of dreams by saying "I will remember" nine times aloud, and then quietly in my head until I fell asleep (or got tired of it).

There are plenty of things she can do! :-)
- make sure her sleep enviroment is just right.
- Meditate within an hour of sleeping.
- Do not get over tired, this can stop you remembering.
- When starting dream recalling, try putting a relaxing CD on repeat while you sleep, very low, this may help to merge your real life enviroment with your dream world.
- Wake as gently as possible.
- If she uses an alarm, use a quiet one, or cover the existing one with something to muffle it. (Quiet ones which get slowly louder are good)
