So, I just finished "Waking Life" the other day and it really inspired me to work on being able to LD. I have been doing some reading on it, and I know that I won't be able to do it right away but I am still trying.
Last night I was trying to go to sleep and every time I would start to drift off, my eyes would move to see whatever image my mind had just created. Every time this happened it would bring me right back to being fully awake, only to repeat it all again.
I am assuming that the problem is just that I am too eager to LD and not just slipping off. I guess I am curious if anyone else has problems with this.
So 2 questions:
1. Anyone else feel the need to look around (consequently waking yourself up) as you are trailing off to sleep?
2. Does anyone else have the overwhelming urge to blink (consequently waking yourself up) when you start trailing off to sleep, even though your eyes are already closed?
That's a common obstacle. Keep practicing, be patient, and eventually you'll break the subconscious linkage of senses to the physical body. It may help to repeat an affirmation such as, "I do not need eyes to see," or whatever you think is best.
Yes and Yes :)
Just a note as an affirmation, the brain works better with positive re-inforcements as opposed to "nots" and "Nos".
You're better off saying things such as "I will lucid dream" as opposed to something like "I do not need eyes to see" because the brain tends to skim over the "not" and takes in "I do need eyes to see"
Hope that helps ;)
Still no luck LD'ing. I did seem to get over the jerking awake issue though. Dream Journal seems to be helping with dream recall quite a bit. I will keep trying to condition myself to do the reality checks during the day....
