Ok i know im still fairly new to the forum i go in and out a lot but im not sure if this subject has been touched or not.

I search for something related to this topic and nothing so here it goes. My nightmares are really weird lately, because in fact there not nightmares more kind of like "guilt mares" or bad feeling dreams like fights or verbal abuse which i guess falls under nightmares in general. But to my point which is weird. oh and here's something to add yup i do feel pain in dreams enough for me to check where i got hurt to make sure everything's OK.

On nights i have these times of dreams i noticed something very odd.Now keep in mind i am well over any fear of the dark but for some odd reason when i get these dreams, all i have to do is turn on a light and sleep with them on i dream normally again everything is ether normal or fun. I woke up and shrug thinking the nightmares have passed turn the lights off and the nightmares come back.
Does this happen every night? No it doesn't and the oddness is the power of sleeping in a room with the lights on. which i don't like to do because sleeping with them off seems to be less stressful with the eyes and a more restful sleep. (don't ask why it just does for me.)

So my question is it is the same for everyone having a nightmare causing a string of them to stop with a turn of the light?

I rarely have nightmares so I haven't tried the light thing.
But maybe your subconsciously scared of sleeping in the dark? Also, if you think that sleeping in the dark will create nightmares, it will continue to do so more than if you think otherwise.
Its like affirmations. I say " i will astral project" and just by saying it, it gives me a better chance.
What you are thinking is "i wont have a nightmare if the lights on."
Initially, it may been a coincidence or something else, maybe you need to learn a lesson? who knows. But a good way to make it stop is to change the way you think. Im no expert, but I believe this is a good way to go. Positive affirmations!

When you're asleep the light has very little effect on you. However as you're going to sleep it can make all the difference.
The storyline in these dreams is a message to you over an unresolved issue.
It may be from your childhood, or a previous fear of going to sleep in the dark.
The scene that's playing out is related in a way you should understand in order to resolve it. It sounds like a subconcious irrationality where a conflict exists between what your experiences actually are, no fears etc, and what was.
A great deal of thought will be required in order to resolve this. It's a personal thing too.
Anything from parents arguing when young to being scared of going to sleep for fear of not waking are two possibilities.
I had 3 years in a similar position and hitting the fear I had head on resolved it instantly.
Yours is different.
Is there anything that sticks out from your past? It may be forgotten so careful thought is required.

It never needs to be completely dark. Mine isn't either.

Suggestion: why don't you try using a night light / night lamp such as this (random google pic search):

This seems to me like night terrors with a nightmares case.
I've had night terrors for almost 6 years and it's not funny. Woke up in the middle of the night yelling and all in sweat.
Couldn't even blink for like 3-4hours before going back to sleep.
There is indeed some unresolved issues that you need to recover from your subconscious... Something that might have been long forgotten but still put stress on you while you sleep.
The closer you are from light spiritually... The more temptations/desire/evil is present.
I would wake up in the middle of the night and for a moment I'd see a shadow form and after that I couldn't do anything else than look everywhere in my whole room with my eyes until I was sure there was nothing.
It could be a fear of judgement. Or a fear of anything that could happen to you.
You either need to introspect yourself and see where something has gone wrong or something that scared you deeply and face that fear.
Sometime it's just a little thing but it fix everything.

I also had to open my light a few times before I understood. Sometime it was lit up all night long.
And night terrors are really terrifying.
I hope you find out what's the problem as soon as possible.

Edit: Another thing I also did was to change my way of thinking. Instead of saying that Oh my God this was scary, I started thinking: Whatever, nothing can hurt me and if it touches me or try to hurt me I'll absorb it and transform it into positive energy.
After that everything was fine.
Dreams/Nightmares/Night terrors cannot hurt you. Remember that. Even if that night terror is bugging you and make you feel confused don't let it affect you.

hmm i think i see what your going with this though im still not sure on how to solve a few of my nightmares that some may be able to help.
I just stopped one i was having fights with my sister constant in on guilt dream last night, just cured everything by just with three words that wasn't really said very often between us, i feel that one wont come back.

The two nightmares that keep coming back that i do not know how to solve.

Gay nightmares, i keep having dreams of men trying to, or having sex with me, when to be honest im straight 100% dam sure of it but yet no matter how much i try it wont stop.at first it was nothing but fear, but after shoot to be honest getting used to having those dreams, at first i tired talking to them, while well i don't need to get into it. they never talk! 2 i tried fighting them if there's a object near by they always overpower or don't die! Im not sure how to stop these.

the school nightmare keeps coming back of people making fun of me, calling me ugly or gross girls not wanting a thing to do with me. most of the bully dreams i stopped i fight back solved the problem, realized im not scared to fight if i half too. So in theses dreams i try to ignore them doesn't work. I tried yelling back at them nope, Tired to joke with them and make fun of myself, thinking maybe i do care and just go with it. No they keep coming back. keep in mind this angers me im 30 years old its been to long to keep having those dreams -_-

If they keep repeating there's something in them you need to do. Don'tlook at them as nasty, just look at them as a lesson. Being strong minded may help. You beat the bullies by doing this exact thing.
As they are not going to harm you, maybe you should take the lead role and do to them what they do to you in some way. You are far stronger than them in all cases but you need to know this. Remember that you have more power than them and don't have fear. It be just the fear you're giving in to.
At times you have to give in, this time isnt one of them. You can beat them, you have to simply know this and they'll have the fear and leave you alone.
Be strong knowing you will win.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.
