Dream as a Fox

I had an interesting dream last night and I thought I'd share since it's been on my mind all day. I was myself as a fox, a form that's not too unusual for me to take in my dreams. More specifically, a kitsune from a lot of asian legends. They are fox spirits that can turn into humans, use magic, and stuff. I was running with many other foxes. It was like a rainbow of foxes running together. Kitsune are well known for having multiple tails. From a normal perspective we all looked like normal foxes, but almost out of the corner of my eye I could see beyond the magic. Right at the tip of our tails I could see where the other tails were hidden from view. It was kind of wild and hard to explain. The whole world kind of looked like that. On one level it was a normal forest, but at the same time is was very colorful and vibrant. Beautiful and magical. Kind of like the physical world was overlayed with another one, but humans couldn't see it.

Well anyways, we were all running together. One of our fellow foxes had been tracked by hunters and we needed to help them. One of the other foxes told me to run ahead so I did so. I was suddenly alone and completely in the "physical world" not the magical looking one. Just a normal forest, snow on the ground. I was afraid because no one had followed me. I didn't see the fox in trouble, just a huge dog. Oh, it was HUGE! I realized it had been a trap (why the other foxes would have set me up, I have no idea). It chased me and I ran for my life. It caught me and ripped my tail off with one bite.

Now in kitsune lore, foxes are terrified of dogs (for good reason, dogs can hunt them). Also, it is said that a fox's power is stored in its tail(s). By the time this happened, the hunters called the dog off and walked up to me. Completely powerless and humiliated, I started inching away. The humans talked to each other for a little bit. They were holding the tail of the other fox they had hunted. They walked closer and I looked up at them. They commented on my eyes, which were red. Yeah, I'm usually a black fox with red eyes. They were superstitious and contemplating what they should do. Did they bring bad luck on themselves by killing the other fox? Would they be doomed if they killed another? Too afraid to kill me, they gave me the tail of the other fox, hoping to make ammends for what they did. Another piece of kitsune lore, the number of tails a fox has, generally the older/more powerful it is. Whether it was magic or what, the new tail instantly healed on me and gave me much more power than before. The fox that had been killed was a much more powerful fox.

It wasn't like I could have said thank you to them or anything, but they let me go. Again following kitsune lore, I then watched over and helped the hunters in the future.

That could have been right from an ancient story, haha!

Everything was so vivid in this dream... Loved it.

There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

That's totally a unique dream about Foxes. Interesting dream. Thanks for sharing it.

I've looked at the symbolism for foxes before, but I haven't really connected it in that direct way. Just like some dreams are blatant symbolism and others aren't. Never has a fox flown through my window, haha! Some of my dreams have a different quality to them. Where everything is vibrant and realistic. I have no idea I'm dreaming or even have a life in the waking. It doesn't matter if I'm a fox, human, or most commonly, another form I take which isn't even a real creature. It's one of the reasons why dreams fascinate me so much.
