Tried to separate, and I think it was just a dream

So I've been reading a lot lately and have been ready to try an OBE when I find myself in the proper state. I call it the "aura" - when I feel awake but also sense what I used to call a hallucination coming on. I'm learning to control the experience and recently got the "vibrations" before learning what they were.

So anyway the other night I was feeling relaxed and even without the aura I had the vibrations. So then, slowly, I tried to lift up and wasn't sure if I was doing it right. My real muscles moved instead, so I said "oh well" and just lay back down. I think I fell asleep, but the next thing I remember I was trying again, this time being careful not to cause muscle movement. Finally I v-e-r-y slowly felt my head raise up until I was vertical. Like being in zero-gravity, almost. At the same time, I could faintly feel myself lying on my side. It was pretty cool!

I moved away from the bed a bit, and then for some reason lay back down on the floor at a 90-degree angle from my "real" position, and decided to push the mattress with my feet. Then it too floated up as if filled with helium! (was the mattress having an out-of-mattress experience?)  :-D

Then I saw through the door into my daughter's bedroom, but vaguely, and my memory becomes dim here. But before the dream ended an attractive blond man flew in and with an air of adventure I brought him down to the bed... and well, you know. That's something I've NEVER done in dreams before, and it was pretty similar to the real thing.  :-)

That's about all I remember and the next morning I was fairly sure it was "just a dream" albeit an almost-lucid one (since I was practicing what I intended to do). Or, it could be a foggy recollection of a real OBE.

Any insights on any of this? Do your first attempts seem like dreams afterward? I'm not complaining, mind you. A dream is probably much safer for me because I've kicked the wall and such acting out stuff while asleep (though not recently).

Dreams are probably all they are. OOBEs could well fall in the dream category with the difference being that emphasis on the thoughts mode perception has reached its summit. In the OOBE-state you become properly 'tuned' there so to speak. And then you get the personal and collective levels of consciousness. The collective may be shared by many as consciousness traverses time and space. This gives rise to the possibility of telepathy, precognition and other extra-sensory phenomena. I think its feasible that our brains transmit and receive info using electromagnetic fields. I pretty much think we are all connected...no matter where we stand on the surface of the globe. I think of our planet as being something like this:

Where anything that touches the surface will be connected to everything else. And this is only an illustration. I believe it goes deeper than this...on a quantum level. Your atoms may be connected to atoms that exist light years away. The quantum entanglement phenomenon seems to provide evidence for this. So maybe our mind can become entangled with those of others temporarily when we access these states of consciousness. :|

Stanford University's (Stephen LaBarge) lucid dreaming experiments with women show that over 50% of their lucid dreams involve something of a sexual nature and that they indeed are experiencing the full physical orgasmic benefits of their mental actions, even moreso than men.

I find less and less this happening with me now that I'm flying away from my body as soon as I lift off. I agree with Robert Monroe's conclusion that if you stay close to your body you may get sucked into a sexual escapade and while it's pleasing it's distracting you from exploring the astrals.

That's reassuring, Jilt. I'm sure my recent marital separation might also factor in there somewhere. The "dream" was somewhat disconnected - or my memory is - so I don't feel too bad about my behavior.  8-) Anyway, the whole thing was pretty short.

I'm still not sure how to roll out without moving real muscles (or bumping my head on the rafters, it's a very small sleeping space!). The vibrations come, but I feel more or less the same after they stop. It's my "what now?" moment. Should I be trying to separate while still vibrating? They got very intense in my head and I almost felt like a rocket would fly out through my skull.

Jeez, I'm certifiable aren't I?

Don't wait for the vibrations to stop. Let them peak and when they settle, before they fade completely, you separate. Roll over slowly from the head and you will find that the rest of the body follows. Do it. Do NOT imagine the movement. Movement can emulate physical movement but once out, you will see that you have moved incorporeally.

Lizelle

Great! I will do that. Although, I'm thinking I should move my bed to a slightly larger space (we're in the attic).

Rolling out using my shoulders (or sitting up) works for me too but I can be not that close to having an OOBE and still get one with the Rope Climbing technique.

As far as your low ceiling, it's not a factor since your consciousness/astral body doesn't need the room so if you believe that it will be easier. Also, as soon as you lift out I'd recommend flying sideways and out through a window since staying near your body can wake you up or suck you back in. For some reason heading sideways always works better for me than going straight up.
