Title: weird dream with a bomb that woke me up
Post by: sashamasha on December 11, 2004, 16:52:28
I don't normally have dreams like this, though I do ordinarily have very very stange dreams, and many strange things have been happening to me lately in waking times, visits, etc.  Anyway, the dream:

I was in my apartment which physically resembled the one I live in here in Germany, but it was somehow slighlty arabic or italian (!), and a cold, sunny summer day.  It was also both taller and shorter, and it was supposed to be NYC.  Whatever.  In the dream, which had interrupted my "regular programming" of long drawn out weirdly symbolic and rambly dreams, I suddenly became very nervous and knew that something would happen.  I saw a bomb being planned in the evening, on a clear night, though I didn't actually see it.  But I "saw" the intent.  I grew more and more certain and realised I would not have time to get out, but I knew this building wouldn't be hit directly, so I just tried to think of how best to grab my important belongings and get out after it came.  And then it came, like a giant bazooka, an big round orange flame like a comet, and I saw it impact against the building on the inside part of the (imaginary) U-shaped courtyard outside my window.  In the dream, my cat suddenly got up and looked out the window as it came, stood there watching with me.  The whiole dream was very short, not even 10 seconds.  But it was very intense and woke me up.

I think there is a danger in overinterpreting threatening dreams like this, especially when the actual possibility of its happening is real.  Could be just the day and age we live in now.  I do not have prophetic dreams.  But it stuck out so much to me, and was so forceful and disruptive to the rest of my dreams that I wanted to share it.

With so many armed conflicts in the world today, it is no great wonder that a level of anxiety is rising into the general collective consciousness.

Particularly concerning RPG's (recoiless projectile guns, ... what you call Bazookas).  They have become the weapon of choice by the insurgents of the world.  Only kids and soldiers carry rifles any longer.  Rocket bombs have replaced mere bullets.  There must be hundreds of thousands of young fighters out in the World all filling the Ether with fantasies of blowing up vehicles and buildings.  And then there are the people in the War Zones who fear being thusly blow apart.  That too must add to the etheric anxieties.

But it doesn't stop there.  For the first time since the Eighties, I have had a dream of multiple nuclear explosions on the horizon.  That threat had been almost entirely eliminated.  Just the slightest attention to diplomatic details by the last surviving superpower could have brought smiles to the faces of everybody in the World.... instead we have provocation after provocation so that various Defense Departments and Military Industries can point to aroused and angry Enemies to justify the transfers of Wealth into their bottomless coffers.   Defense Industries are the LAST Big Industries left in some countries... everything else having moved overseas.  For such defense-dependent countries World Peace is not an option.  They will have enemies or create enemies in order to keep going.   It certainly can't be stopped politically -- it has been demonstrated time and time again that voters generally reward Politicians for getting their countries into War... though European Countries seem to be behaving with more maturity than other countries that could be named.

Anyway, I am afraid that some major cities of the world could be hit with tactical nuclear bombs, and then the price of certain Defense Company Stocks would only go up.  The World should put in place a Universal Constitution whereby no corporate or political entity can profit by War, Death and Destruction.  When you have a situation in which the most powerful people in the World can make a premium on their investments by sweeping away Civilization with escalating armed conflicts, then it all becomes quite hopeless, doesn't it?

I've had similar dreams too.

I once dreamt that there was a huge nuclear explosion, and I had to pack all my gear and get away from it.  Needless to say, I didn't have time and could see the flash on the horizon and the dust and smoke, vibrations and heat coming towards me over the horizon.  I think I woke up after that.

I don't get over-excited about these as premonitions.  Perhaps they are, but more likely they're symptomatic of global anxiety, as Leo says.

After 9/11 I remember having a  dream of being in a sky-scraper which got hit by something.  It started to swing from side to side, and was pretty scary.  But then I realised I was dreaming and escaped from the building by flying away from it.

Interestingly enough, I've never really had a bad nightmare since I learned to LD as a teenager.  If I get into a threatening situation in a dream I almost invariably realise it's a dream....
