Title: Where'd my car go?
Post by: Stookie on September 12, 2006, 12:05:44
I have recurring dreams of losing my car. I'll be leaving some situation, and can't find my car anywhere. Last night I had a dream that my car was towed and couldn't get any help as to where it was taken.

I've also have dreams of car accidents, car theft, selling my car, or my car not starting.

I once read that a car in your dream is a symbol of your physical body, and losing it has some sort of OBE connection, maybe trying to find your way back.

Has anyone else had similar car dreams?

Sarah puts hand up.

I have car dreams regularly.  I thought they represented your life.  So if you are driving along happily in a car in your dreams, everything is fine in your life.  I rarely have dreams where I am driving along happily  :-D  And also, if you are in the passenger seat, you are no longer in control of your life.  You need to be in the driving seat.

My car dreams involve not being able to remember where I parked it; returning to where I parked it only to find it gone; the brakes not working properly (the car slows down but never quite stops); going too fast.

My most oft dreamt one is where the brakes don't work.  The car slows down, but I know I'm going to hit something eventually, albeit not very hard, however I spend the majority of my dream trying to dodge other cars, trees and buildings.  And normally I end up going down a hill that speeds the car up and makes it even harder to dodge things.  I don't ever remember actually hitting anything, but the stress of these dreams is quite high and is most likely significant in my physical life in some way.  Perhaps I find myself in situations where I feel I can't get out of them and don't know how to walk away or say no... hmmm.

And the car in my dreams tends to be the car that I am currently driving in physical reality.

Hmmm, that makes sense.

That's my most recurring one - not being able to find it knowing darn well where I parked it. So this could be an indication that I'm searching for my lifes purpose, maybe finding the thing that "drives" me forward in my life. Or maybe I feel as though people or situations are taking my purpose from me.

There are dreams where I hand my car over to someone else and have to find another way. Other times I'm in the backseat while someone else drives. These could be where I feel that other people are in control of my life.

So here's another question - are these dreams a message or lesson to help me learn? or are they just manifestations of subconscious feelings? It dosen't seem like knowing this helps... I don't feel in control of my life, never have, and I just roll with what life throws at me. I don't need a dream to tell me that.

I understand what you mean.  Perhaps it's your subconscious reminding you that you aren't in control.  Maybe telling you that you should be?  I don't know.  It depends on your emotions during the dream where you can't find your car and so on.  Are you panicked or not bothered?  And so on.

As an aside, I had a nap today and had one of my "car won't stop" dreams.  When I hit the brakes, the car slowed down at the junction but didn't stop and kept trickling forward.  There was a car coming and if I'd have done nothing,  my car would have gently rolled into the car coming (or more likely the car coming would have walloped my car).

I realised that I needed to get out of the junction before the car came past, so sped up and got out of there.  It's dangerous and I'm a danger to other drivers too.  They don't know why I'm driving like that - to them it must look like I'm going to stop.

Anyway, this time I realised what was happening (that the car wasn't going to stop) - AND REALISED IT MUST BE A DREAM!!  I became lucid and decided to hit the nearest car - just to see what would happen next.

What did happen next once I'd hit the car was I woke up.  :-(

But thanks Stookie for giving me another lucid trigger!  I've never been lucid in car dreams before.

Yippee!

Yeah. Ive had a dream where my car changed into a motorbike while I was driving it. I then became lucid and changed it back to something resembling my actual car. Lost lucidity again and suddenly my car was a bicycle and I was having a hard time understanding why there were pedals in my car!

If I was going through puberty I would understand, but really? No clue as to the meaning of that one.  :|
