As far as I understand it, it's only important as far as the Microcosmic Orbit is concerned...
I used to have pages from a book given by a friend, but lately my HDD was wiped.

It depends on what I am doing. If I pull energy up my spine then am bringing it down the front (working with the mircocosmic orbit) I will touch my tongue to the roof of my mouth. While it does not seem necessary to do this to bring the energy down, I find it helps a lot and I feel a lot more energy moving down than if I don't. If you are working with energy this way I would suggest atleast trying it and see what works for you.
Well as far as i know, this place is the natural place of the tongue in the mouth ... It takes an effort for "normal" people to put their tongue elswhere than on the roof (when the mouth is totally closed of course, teeth touching teeth). In fact it's even considered as a medical problem if it doesn't (when the mouth is really closed, again). But when the mouth is only half closed, i too don't touch my palate. And it's ok like this :) Moreover, we got some big secondary centers here so it's easier to feel them and focus on them while the tongue doesn't touch it.
I touch my tongue to the roof of my mouth when first moving energy up through my primairy chakras.Once everything is open I forget about it.
Cheers
I have always felt energy flowing better with the tongue on the roof of the mouth. Yhere is a yogic think about putting it all the way back into the nasal cavities, cannot remember what it is called.
Thanks for the replies.
So, if I understand correctly, it helps but it is not necessary...
What about while APing? Anybody tried?
time to bring this post back...
I just wanted to mention something that happened when i was doing my energy work. I was at the beach stimulating my chakras and feeling vary strong vibrations proof that there was a lot of energy going around. After i started stimulating my third eye chakra and some time has passed i found with great surprise that my tongue was pressing the roof of my mouth!!! That time i didn't know anything about this stuff, that the tongue helps in any way with the energy work. And as i was raising and raising more energy, it was pressing harder and harder! As my body knew what to do to help the energy flow.

I never do it; my TaiChi teacher neither...
I tried when I APed, and it did not do much (supposed to increase the lucidity).
Hi,
This is also employed in Kirya yoga during pranyama and not normally during meditation etc. However I had been told not to use it during Kirya meditation practice! See Kechari Mudra: -

Ah, thanks for the reminder. I always forget, and it feels weird when I do it, which is a bit distracting. However, I'll keep trying for a bit to see if it improves the energy flow as you all suggest.
it is written there that it should be done only under supervision of guru, and may cause damage to speech and tongue
i never thought about it but i always have my tongue pressing the roof of my mouth (teeth clenched)

I think the 'damage' part only applies to people who think about cutting the frenulum or use a process called milking the tongue incorrectly. The teaching of the technique and the processes by which it can be achieved are supposed to be secret anyway and so learned from a guru.
