Energy shooting up my spine - help?

Since putting more focus on my chakras the last few weeks and also putting in a lot more meditation time I've been noticing little waves of warm, happy energy that seem to roll up from the base of my spine all the way to the base of my skull.  These have been mild but noticeable enough to cause my back to arch a bit, my eyes to roll and they sometimes even cause a few seconds or random giggles and always warm, happy feelings.  I'm sure this is connected somehow to chakras or energy, but what is it, and should I be doing anything about it?   A possibly related side note, I don't know much about chakras outside of the basics, but I know the locations of the main ones, and can't seem to feel my throat, stomach, or crown chakras much at all.  My root, heart, and third eye I can always feel when simply thinking about them.

This sounds like you are activating your kundalini energy to me

personalreality

you missed the sacral.

nevertheless, don't stress it.

i doubt it's "kundalini" because what the hell is kundalini anyway?!

heh.

this energy is flowing through you all the time.  it helps maintain your focus in your body.  normally you're ignorant to it.  but now you're doing energy work which doesn't actually "active" anything, it just turns your awareness toward your "energy body" and you start to notice the energy actually moving through you for the first time.  it may get more intense, but will subside once you learn to balance the awareness of the energy with your normal awareness.  these two different focuses of consciousness are intimately intertwined and you learn to recognize that.

or not, who knows.
be awesome.

Good catch personalreality :P

So that should be kind of a constant experience with more practice, to the point I don't notice it, like the way we don't notice our breathing unless we pay attention to it?

On the same note, what are some popular exercises used by members here for chakras and just getting used to ones own energy?

personalreality

exactly.

plus, like i said, you'll learn how energy interacts with your physical body and your environment and you will start to notice fluctuations in those kinds of energy sensations.  sometimes it might feel warm or cool, might make you feel happy or scared.  you'll learn to interpret these feelings in meaningful ways.  what i'm describing is what many people call intuition.  you're developing a psychic skill!!

people around here like to use Robert Bruce's NEW Energy Work system.  YOu can find a full and free tutorial on his website www.astraldynamics.com under the heading "Energy Work".

I like to make it more simple.  I just spend time throughout my day moving my attention to a particular chakra and try to perceive my day through that chakra for a bit.  The simplest way to enhance your awareness of the energy around you is to do just that, be aware of it.  Pay special attention to how you feel throughout the day.  Notice how your body feels when you are in different situations.  There are some good books about this almost instantaneous ability of the sympathetic nervous system to recognize the "energy" of your environment and respond accordingly.  You might check out "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell (i think that's his name) or "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales.  Reading books like that keeps you focused on how your body reacts to the energy it encounters daily.
be awesome.

Start from question 6.
Given that you have no idea what the kundalini is, wouldn't that make your opinion on it no better than mine?
If you dont know what something is, research it and prove it wrong. Dont just dismiss it.

blis

Your mention of it making you giggle and arch your spine makes me think it could be the same thing as I experience when I force energy up the middle of my spine. Not just up the back but the actual inside of my spine.

I would describe it as like being tickled but from inside. I get the tickley feeling in pretty much my whole body. For some reason it always makes me think of when I used to scratch a particular spot on my dogs side and his little legs would start going like he was sratching himself.

I reckon it's just the nerves in my spine being stimulated by the energy.

As for energy sensations diminishing with time, that was my experience at first. But I've found that the more chakra/energy work I do, the more capacity my energy channels get. So sensations start to diminish for a little while but as I become able to move more energy around they get stronger again. I used to be like, "WOW I'm using loads of energy now!", only to discover a month later that I could use even more. I now reckon the potention for channeling energy is pretty much limitless and I'm cusrrently only able to use what is comparitively a very small amount.

Blis, I think we are describing the same thing, good explanation!     Everyone else, thanks for the links, I have a lot of practice to do with the NEW system!  :D

i forgot to actually respond, i know full well what kundalini is (supposedly).  what i'm saying is that it is unnecessary to complicate something by trying to define it within specific parameters determined by an ancient culture.  certainly the serpent is a powerful symbol found in many cultures so i'm sure that there is some truth/relevance to the kundalini bit, but it's just not necessary at this point.  plus, anytime anyone says anything about energy and their spine, kundalini is the go to answer.  but how do you know?  you don't.  it could be anything, why define it with one ambiguous esoteric term?  it's like a knee jerk reaction around here.

"i've noticed some energy surges up my spine"
KUNDALINI!
"i've felt a tingling in my 3rd eye"
KUNDALINI!
"lately i've become more aware of the energy flowing through my body"
KUNDALINI!
"i'm really craving some cream corn right now"
KUNDALINI!
"so i was on the bus the other day and this guy...."
KUNDALINI!

word.
be awesome.

Firmitas

Well put.
From what I read and from what the original poster had asked, it seemed to me that the 'Kundalini' would be a good place to start researching. Because I am still at the beginning stages of researching all of this, I am not able to definitively give an answer that I know is 100% true. I am not saying that it is the kundalini. Nor am I saying that it isn't.
