The Night Mist

:(  I have a question and any who knows please post as soon as possible. I have been doing the NEW system for about a year and a half now and only now I have reached the part where I stimulate my major energy chakras and I found that they work well but...there appears to be some kind of problem although I have NO prof that is energy related. The problem is that I can't breath well, I take air in my lungs at maximum and I don't feel as it was enough, it's like I breath but not sufficiently. I read in Astral Dynamics that developing the solar plexus chakra might cause insufficient breathing but I think that it was referring to the moment when energy passes through the s.p chakra.
P.S. I went to doctors and all that but they didn't find anything wrong with my lungs or heart or anything, I'm as healthy as it gets but still.....
....so I thought this might be energy related and thought I ask, any opinions? :(

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Of course I'm not going to give you an answer because I'm not a doctor, but as I've been practicing pranayama for several years I think I could help you a bit with the following exercise:

1.Lay down on the floor relaxed. There's not a mandatory need to be completely relaxed and empty-minded, but it would be proper to enjoy the exercise in order to obtain the most gain.
2.Bend your knees so your feet get closer to your butt.
3.Start exhaling, lift your torso up while, at the same time, you lift your arms.
4.You'll get to a position in which: your upper back has taken off, your head is lifted too and your arms are 45 degrees up.
5.While retaining this state go on exhaling till your lugs are completely empty.
6.Hold for some seconds till you can't go on (don't overdo) and lay down again, relax your muscles and let the air in, in the most natural way you can. Without inhaling deeply in a "conscious" manner but letting the air in in its own way. You can let out any sound too.
7.Go on breathing till you have enough oxygen in your blood again and repeat the exercise several times (start with three and add more counts as you get more experienced in it).

This exercise improves lug's capability and body's ability to absorve oxygen.

Don't overdo and observe your body while doing. You're the only one who knows the inmediate effect, and in the case of any problem you should inmediately stop it up.

Hope it helps.

OMG Night Mist, this is just what I was experiencing last year. I thought I was suffocating. I was convinced that either I was going to suffocate or that I was going to have a heart attack. I was also having lower back pains and felt an uncomfortable pressure in my chest. And the way my heart would beat sometimes, I thought it was going to come out of my chest. I too went to the hospital, and the doctor found nothing wrong. I was even a little mad at him, because, NOW what was I supposed to do. Just like you describe, it felt like I just couldn't fill my lungs up with enough air. This was before I ever even knew about Robert Bruce or NEW. I believe now it was the initial stages of kundalini.

I believe this shift in breathing has something to do with moving to higher levels of consciousness. I've read a lot of things in the past that talk about how our bodies are changing in order to accommodate this new energy that is appearing.

I have found actually that it's nothing to be afraid of. It's just something to get used to. I also find that if I don't fight it, and just take deep, easy breaths, it helps with my energy work.

I believe this breathing issue has something to do with the oxygen in the blood. There is a certain yoga called kriya. The goal of this yoga is to saturate the body with prana (or universal life force), so that your consciousness no longer has the burden of focusing so much of its attention on the ceaseless demands of the body. Basically, so that it will be able to operate on its own, so to speak, leaving you to explore higher levels of consciousness. Now, your breath is your most direct connection with this life force. When you breath air in, you breath in prana. So, to saturate your body with prana, is to saturate your body with oxygen. I think this is where the breathing problem comes in. When your body takes on that extra life-force, you no longer need as much oxygen as before. You no longer need to draw as much life-force from the outside world, because more of it is already within you. Seems to me like it's something akin to a rareification process. Like you're now being "weened" off of the more dense energy that you were used to.

I find that the more deeply I breathe and the more relaxed I am with the shift in breathing, the more the life-force becomes concentrated in my spine. In yoga, of course, the importance of the spine is greatly emphasized. The flow of energy from my tail-bone to my forehead gets stronger by the day. And everyday the pressure around my 3rd eye (and my head in general) gets stronger. But as time goes by, I'm also able to tolerate greater pressures, forces, energies etc. So it doesn't become overwhelming. I'm wondering when my head will finally explode and I can experience, what they call Self or God Realization.  :D

Hope this helped.

part of the problem may be that you are now beginning to focus on your breathing in a different way than before.  so now that you notice your breathing more rather than just subconsciously doing it, you try to do it conciously...and not being used to how it feels to consciously breathe( i mean most people hardly notice that they're breathing till they stop) you go into deep breathing exercises like you probably practiced, so you breathe in a lot more. Ive had similar experiences as you described. the band Nirvana said something like(loose quote): cut myself on angel hair in vain, every breath i take.   like we aren't always used to noticing each individual breath...so maybe sometime when you have been feeling like you have enough air notice that you prob weren't even trying hard to notice each breath and weren't breathing very deep but plenty enough.

Woha, I am really glad to hear that it's not a psychical problem.
I thank you all for your replies they helped me more than you can imagine.
Thanks for the exercise andonitxo , I'll be sure to try that!

Nostic: Real thanks for telling me this, it's really reassuring to know that it's part of the development process...I'm going to have a hard time getting used to this heavy breathing and an even harder time trying to convince my mom I ain't sick !...lol :P...you're reply helped allot!

Naiad780

I have breathing problems physically (asthma, allergies, costochondritis that makes deep breathing hard), but I notice it especially while meditating.  Last night I was doing a guided meditation and the reader was concerned that I was not breathing!  I was, but not much, I suppose.

Good to know it's not just me.
