I had the same trouble with my right hand when I first started. What worked for me is the excercise he mentions is used mainly for the primary energy centers, the breaking or tearing motion on my knuckles. Give it a try.
Also, I worked both the legs and arms on my first day. I didn't start the full body workout for 2 weeks or so because I wasn't very good at concentrating on it and manipulating energy. I say give it a shot if you think you can handle it.
However, I wouldn't work on the primary centers for at least 3 weeks, so keep that in mind.
I have recently read the NEW techniques but I am a bit confused.
I want to know if I should do the whole body first or only the leg work. For how many days should I continue with a certain part if I find that it is not getting activated . For example my left leg does not seem to get activated. So should i just leave it alone and go on to the hands part. Also the activation of hip part seems difficult to me. Any help would be useful.
