Personally, I would probably only rest if I was feeling burnt out.  Sometimes, for example, I can practice projecting without success, and I can lose sleep over it.  This can leave me feeling drained at times.  So when I feel like that, I simply tell myself, "Ok, tonight is a night I'm dedicating to sleep!"

However, if you feel up for the challenge, then I would attempt your energy development as long as possible.

well, i never rested when i was learning to work with my energy, but then every day or so i would go to a park and spend a few hours practicing and a while drawing in energy. didn't get tired, in fact overall, i became a very energetic little kid.  :)  maybe that would help: go to a park and spend time practicing by absorbing energy from your surroundings and then using it to do things.

one of the ways i would get practice was in using the energy to get my body to recover quicker when i would exhaust myself from physical things (like walking for hours, or training in the martial arts). it really cuts down on the time you need to rest before you can do stuff again.
