Starting Energy Work...

Other ideas would be doing yoga, chi gong or some kind of martial art. Do you do any kind of meditation?

In the world in general and in this nation
May not even the names disease, famine, war, and suffering be heard.

Before I learned reiki I did not really have a system for learning to use energy. It was also before NEW for me. The first thing to learn to do was to feel energy. The first challenge to this was in trying to decide what counted as energy. The solution was to refrain from evaluating whether what I had was energy or not until it had gotten to the point where it was clearly energy and not just some sensations due to physical causes. You see, at a certain point it becomes possible to cause the energy to accumulate and flow by purely mental methods. Until then, here is what I did to learn. Take a few deep breaths, relax briefly, and rub the palms of your hands together quickly for about twenty to thirty seconds. Then pull your hands apart by about 2 inches (about 5 cm). When you pull your hands apart a bit more or push them together a little there will be a bit of pressure from what looks like nothing but the air between your hands. This is how I first learned to feel energy. There will be a tendency to decide it is nothing but simple heat from ordinary friction, but if you refrain from judging it and continue to practice it you will find that you can mentally move it around or even raise the energy without using physical motion.

Unfortunately I don't do any meditation. I should really stop being a punk and make time for it.

Meditation and energy work go well together, but one is not necessary for the other. Improving correct breathing is effective for both and is easier to integrate into daily life than a strict meditation practice.

I think the benefit of meditation is to help quiet the mind- without mental chatter you will be more aware of subtle energies. I suppose you could have that affect by doing NEW, chi gung, playing music but there is nothing like emptiing out the old mind and sitting in silence.

I think that meditation is for learning control of your thoughts, improving concentration - a good basis for anything you want to achieve.

To raise energy you should imagine a colored orb (white is good) in front of you.  It pulsates energy and is growing in brightness and energy.  Breathe energy from the ball and channel it to your hands making a smaller orb.  or simply let the energy flow into your hands from the ball instead of breathing it in.
Think thoughts like
Energy to my hands
Energy to me
Learn to ground try sending energy out of one foot into the ground take in energy from the earth through the other foot.
or imagine roots coming from your feet gowing deep into the earth and branches coming from your hands

Hey all,

I think I'm going to start doing some energy work. Working on opening up my pathways and chakras and such. You guys seem better for having doing so and I'd like to do it to help me with health and healing.

So I'm curious, how did you guys start? I'm going to start Astral Dynamics here and read up on the NEW energy ways. Any suggestions or references to other work or ideas?
