Such a thing as being TOO visual!?

Well, I'm a lot like you (very visually oriented) and I learned it just fine. It takes practice. Practice. Practice. But it's worth it...

What's wrong with looking at your knee, thumb joint, etc. while practicing body awareness actions? If you're getting hung up with this one thing of needing to visually see the matrix of your body parts in order to make the tactile part work, what the heck? Just do what works for you, but with the idea that you'll gradually train yourself away from needing aids.

Do it at one practice session with your eyes open and looking at the parts you're working with. Then later have a practice session where you lay down and close your eyes to practice. It takes repetition and trying lots of things before you get really adept at this stuff. Don't artificially constrain yourself. You'll learn a lot about yourself by trying many different things.

Another thing, read the instruction over again periodically. You'll get new clues for success in later readings.

Whatever you do, trust me...it's pretty cool once you get it. It's worth the effort.
The journey upwards is worth the inconvenience.

Black Dream

I purchased Mr. Bruce's book, Astral Dynamics quite some time ago promising  myself that I'd only begin active practice of the exercises detailed in his tome after I had finished reading the entire thing.

Well, I finally finished reading it and now that I've begun I've already hit a snag. It concerns Mobile Body Awareness. When I attempt tactile awareness of say perhaps my arm or leg, kneecap, thumbjoint, etc. I really can't pinpoint awareness in a small area. I've tried to assume the circular motion on  various body parts but find this rather difficult.

It's not that I'm not aware of my body, it's just that when I'm aware of it, I can't focus awareness to one little tiny part, only the whole thing. So instead of feeling my thumbjoint I'd feel my whole thumb or perhaps the whole hand, likewise the result is the same with other body parts.

I can definitely feel a sense of spatial awareness and a spatial relation between various body parts.  When my eyes are closed and I attempt tactile awareness I very well know and feel my feet being on the floor far away from my head.

To compound this problem, in order to even try to attempt MBA I need  to visualize instead of just plain feel and sense the body. I actually have to imagine (ie. Visualize) the look and shape of the body part in question in order to be aware of it.

Is there a such thing as being TOO visual for Mobile Body Awareness? For example I can close my eyes, visualize complex mathematical problems in my head, and opening my eyes a few moments later have the correct answer.

I'd really appreciate any help anyone is willing to give, thanks!
