This question has really been a mystery. It is said that the 3rd eye is the brow chakra and it's stimulation is a mental stimulation.
On the other side in Indian Mythology, it is written that Lord Shiva devoted all his life in the Himalayas meditating. It's also given that a real eye opens in his forehead when he open's his third eye and many other things.
So it's really a contradiction of Mythology and Science.

From my experience, when meditating in front of a mirror I can usually see my third eye as a little ball of energy between and extending slightly above my eyebrows, more distinct then all the other "colors, energy, or just hallucinations" that tend to pop up when meditating/vegetating. I not a full blown clairvoyant, I don't see chakras as spinning discs, but tend to see masses of rainbowy color along the center of my body. I'm sure with more developement, especially in the auric vision department, it will become more distinct and noticiable.
The energy you saw was energy coming out from your brow chakra which represents the third eye.
this is a very interesting question. first off can the third eye be actually seen? i mean when you open the third eye in front of a mirrior, can it be seen? or is the third eye only known as an inner chakra can only be mentally opened? well i hope for many differant oppininons on this. thanks in advanced[:D]
