What do I visualise when Reiki-ing?

Usui reiki has three levels, usually. They can be broken down into more than three levels or put together as just two levels or even one level. In the usual way of teaching reiki, there are three levels. The first level is a preparation step. The second level introduces a substantial increase in the amount of energy available. The third level makes the energy easier to access, improves its quality, and helps to complete the system. Levels two and three have symbols associated with them. The first level uses the symbols indirectly, as it is the symbols which define the energy and bring it into the crown chakra of the person using reiki. The symbols in use are being modified both intentionally and accidentally. Often when people who learned their reiki from different teachers compare notes, they find that the symbols are not the same. Usually the names of the symbols are not changed. For people who have been shown the reiki symbols, they are usually visualized as being violet in color. The name of the symbol is usually repeated mentally three times. The symbol can be placed somewhere by visualizing it going were it is wanted and dissolving there. It is not necessary to both use the visualization and the name, but it is helpful to combine the two. After just the first level, it can be helpful to rub the palms of the hands together briefly to start the flow of the reiki. It becomes unnecessary at the second level because of the symbols, but it is still a nice way to get the energy started well after having finished the master / third level. I often use my awareness hands from learning NEW to give reiki to myself. This way I can create several sets of hands at the same time and use all of them at once to give myself reiki. With level one this would also be an option for people who have learned NEW.

Hello
That was an excellent discription. I you don't mind me adding that preparation  is important , grounding , centering and protection. Did you feel the passing of the attunements?...When I was attuned to level 2 it was much more aparent. Try using the primary sign with the middle finger , left hand over left side of head over the ear palm extended scroll the primary symbol , like writting on a chalk board and in your minds eye , envision the symbol at the same time.... Do at the same time the right side and to the progression of three.....I visualize the left and right symbols very much struck in to my thoughts boldly.....  I believe we all feel something slightly different , but for my self the best way to discribe it is empathy, love and releasing to a higher power. Stick with it it will come to you. ..........

I strongly caution against sending energy to the crown chakra unless you are qualified I don't know much about reiki but have posted some interesting energy stuff here
converting negative energy into positive
how to raise energy
check it out

Why should anyone be warned against sending energy to the crown chakra? If anything, I would warn against overstimulating the base chakra, where the dormant kundalini rests. Actually, all reiki stimulates the crown chakra. That is where it comes into the body before being distributed by the heart chakra.

I will never accept that all this energy comes through my head
secondly I read that overstimulization of the crown chakra will be unpleasant
I was warned
and I believe it was here writen by Robert Bruce several years ago
if you want to argue ask him he is the source i got it from unless I am mistaken in the source
which I still believe this
the beginner has no place puting energy in his crown]
I am sorry that you are so addamant about supporting Reiki healing
but from what I have read here it seems to be a limitation to the truth
as you yourself are misled

PS my appologize Tom I deeply respect you but know you are no more advanced than I

and I know that this beginner cannot hurt themselves with your advice
I was mearly concerned for this person genuinely yours

Clairvoyants have been brought in to observe reiki practitioners in action. It comes in through the crown chakra. This is even reflected in the method for passing on attunements, which starts by stimulating the crown chakra and placing the symbols into the crown chakra.

As to what Robert Bruce teaches, "Astral Dynamics" would be a good source. Chapter 14 on p. 167 is "Stimulating Primary Energy Centers". P. 172 says that it is best to spend 3 months on secondary centers before moving on to primary centers. P. 177 to p. 178 has a section about how to go about stimulating the crown chakra.

The warning I am familiar with is about storage areas. There are three main storage areas, the sub-navel, sub-heart, and sub-brow (p. 133). P. 134 is where it says that only the sub-navel storage area should be filled directly. Filling the upper two can lead to excess energy being trapped in the head and / or heart. Beginner or not, it is best to allow the upper two storage centers to be filled by letting the sub-navel storage center do it. Even early on, without completely filling the sub-navel storage center, the energy will start to go to the upper storage centers.

At no point have I ever said that I am more advanced than anyone here. Even if we were to compare qualifications and experiences, we clearly started out in different places. I will be glad to admit that I hard to start by digging myself out of a very deep hole before my progress even began.

Hello..
Do you not feel the energy entering in a spiral motion from crown to base, bilateraly and emiting outward through the heart chakra as well as the hands when sending energy?

There is something I have in mind for when I learn to do astral projection regularly. It would be a good idea to develop some skill first, to be certain of my objectivity. It would be fun to have someone doing reiki and to go out of body to trace the reiki back to its source. It would be best to have someone who is at the master level so that all of the symbols could be in active use. It is something Robert Bruce could do when he sets up his research institute.

Wow people. I really appreciate the healthy discussion here. I have not tried Reiki. It is difficult to be confident in a practise that you feel you dont fully grasp. For example, are there any symbols in Usui reiki level 1,  that must be used or do they only come into use at level two reiki. I basically learnt all i know from http://freereiki.virtualave.net/index.html
I believe this site to be quite reliable but i basically copied and pasted information from the site. If someone can write down a basic level one technique session and how it is conducted and what should be visualised then it would be greatly appreciated. Or recommend a good site with this information.
cheers

The book "Essential Reiki" by Diane Stein really is the best source you can buy on the subject of reiki. Some of her beliefs are a bit unusual, but she has a lot of good information in her book.

There is not much to say about level one. The energy comes in through the crown chakra and you can direct it through your hands. I like to start by briefly rubbing my hands together to get the energy to start flowing. It was what my teacher suggested when I was learning the first level. You can use reiki the way you would use energy with NEW, by guiding it with your hands to the same places.

If you get a chance to learn reiki from a teacher in person, I suggest you take it even after you have completed the master level through the web. The attunements can be repeated as many times as you would like.

Hi all,
I recently chose to take the Reiki 1 course offered on the page listen in "wannabe healer" on page 12 of this forum. I noticed that I didnt feel any of the sensations that it described even though i didn't have much trouble visualising what it told me to. I think i did everything in the correct way that it instructed but no tingling. This was a little discouraging but I do believe that I was somehow successful. I too am a wanna be healer. If i can master this technique then i would be very happy. Should i just shut up and get out there and try my stuff? Should i take the course again or C, should i not persue any further.

Also, what should i visualise to get the energy flowing??

Any reiki people out there, your advice would be greatly appreciated :)
