Hello everyone! I didn't know of these Astral/OBE forums and brand new to this one. I am interested in everything to do with astral travel/OBE and when talking to my friend about Edgar Cayce this is what HE had to say (he gave permission for me to use his words) [Beginning of my friend's ideas/opinion]
"I have heard of Edgar Cayce's "akashic" records. It's a non-Christian concept stemming from Hindu mysticism and Theosophy.
Cayce also believed in reincarnation which, again, is popular in Hinduism.

At the risk of sounding preachy, Christianity does not accept the concept of reincarnation (That I am not sure about even though I'm a christian and certaint scriptures are interpeted many different ways)
The most obvious question you're probably asking is, "Then what did Cayce experience in the akashic records?" First, let's remember from a Christian perspective, there is no "akasha". That's Hinduism. So where did Cayce get his info? There's a number of spiritual explanations.
The most likely (and in my belief probable) explanation is Cayce got his information, knowingly or unknowingly, from an Evil spirit. Now before you giggle or dismiss the idea, remember that Jesus Himself personally confronted and dealt with Evil spirits on several occasions, as did His Apostles after His death. The New Testaments are filled with such instances.

Before I go into further detail, I should probably clarify by what I mean by an Evil spirit. I mean a conscious, sentient, non physical entity allied with Satan. An Evil spirit is a fallen angel.

Like people, Evil spirits come in an almost infinite degree of strength and intelligence. Some are very simple and base, the sort most likely responsible for poltergeist activity and the typical haunting phenomena. But others, are much, much more intelligent. We humans can't really comprehend the level of intelligence some of the higher orders of Evil spirit possess because it far surpasses what we would call genius (Is this accurate in anyone's experience or knowledge?) in human terms.

All Evil spirits, regardless of intelligence, are dedicated entirely to misleading humanity away from God and into their abyss. A simple Evil spirit tries to terrify people into believing that God is weak, or absent. Why else does its frightening manifestations continue?
But the infinitely more brilliant (pun intended) among them have invented much more clever traps. One of them is to promote false doctrines and to substantiate them through false evidence.

So, along comes a man like Edgar Cayce. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he honestly believed in what he preached and wasn't working to actively mislead others. One day, while he's meditating he has an experience and he comes back with all sorts of info he gleaned from a place he calls the "akashic records".
If he didn't get them from where he said, where did he get them? He got them from an Evil spirit who provided that information.
Remember what an Evil spirit is. It's a being that has been around since the beginning of Creation. They see and have seen every single thing that's ever happened on this earth. It's not hard for them to provide perfect information about the past. They've existed through all of it.
Well, what about the future? Couldn't Cayce predict that as well? For starters, that in itself is a red flag.

Christianity teaches us there are only two kinds of prophet. Those from God and false prophets who are aided by Satan to deceive humanity. How does a person tell the difference? A true prophet is never, ever wrong. (I am in total agreement with my friend on this point) Ever. Cayce made a number of prophecies that didn't happen. If they didn't happen, he was wrong. If he was wrong he's a false prophet and therefore his information comes from Satan, not God.

I'll be the first one to admit that many psychics and clairvoyants can often predict the future (undoubtedly with the help of Evil spirits). But you're probably wondering, how does an Evil spirit predict the future? It's not that difficult theoretically. Humans are already able to predict the weather and certain geophysical events (like ocean currents) by monitoring the earth, the atmosphere, and running sophisticated computer simulations. It's statstical probability.

Now imagine a group of beings with an intelligence infinitely beyond our own, an intelligence that makes our best computers seem like a caveman's club. On top of that, they've seen all of earth's history, and they're able to see at any given point, nearly everything going on all over the world. Like with a weather projection, an Evil spirit is able to make a very accurate prediction on what will happen. It's not really that they "see" the future, but rather they're making an incredibly accurate guess about it that is usually right.
But there's the catch. "Usually right" isn't "always right". They're not perfect, like God. It's also possible God deliberately alters things at a whim, just to discredit them.

Just because Cayce believed in God, doesn't make him any less a false prophet. The Devil has no objection to a man preaching about God providing what he preaches leads others away from God's teachings. Cayce should have, by all rights, recognized the true source of his "visions" the moment one didn't come true. (I have to agree with his point since when God said something was to pass, it always did) Instead, he went on preaching his theories and leading others down the wrong path.

Astral travel is another related concept.
Can it be done? Maybe. Assuming that it isn't an Evil spirit giving you a false illusion once you "open up" to the universe. Your body and your mind is like a house. If you leave the front door wide open, there's no way to stop someone horribly evil from entering.
The worst part is, an Evil spirit doesn't have to appear as a conscious "voice in your head". It could, as I believe happened to Edgar Cayce, appear as a false experience (like astral travel).
Short version: Cayce was a crackpot and his beliefs are contrary to the teachings of God found in the Bible. Astral travel is a quick way to travel down the same road he followed into Hell." [End of my friend's comments]

Now, I'm respectful of all viewpoints/opinions so I'm weighing his opinion as well the opinons of others who don't agree. I barely know anything about Edgar Cayce to even form an opinon at this point. I remember as a child seeing his "Seth Speaks" (probably not the correct title but hey I was a kid at the time!) in a store but had no idea what the book was about or who Edgar Cayce was. I have just begun reading about the Astral but I will include reading from other people who were said to have alot of knowledge and experience in the astral plane. Does anyone have any comments on my friend's opinion? I would love to hear any! Thanks! :D

Well, Latinas, I guess I only have one observation to make (rather than taking the time to deconstruct your friend's opinion point by point) and that is in response to:

QuoteAll Evil spirits, regardless of intelligence, are dedicated entirely to misleading humanity away from God and into their abyss...But the infinitely more brilliant (pun intended) among them have invented much more clever traps. One of them is to promote false doctrines and to substantiate them through false evidence.

And the most prolific of these "false doctrines" in all of the history of humankind IS Christianity.

As to the Bible, it was not even written by Christians!  "Christianity" as we know it came a few centuries later, and moreover, its entire doctrine is based upon only one particular way of interpreting the Bible.

Three other things, FYI:
1) If you want to read about Astral Travel in the Bible, go to 2 Corinthians 12:1-4 and show it to your friend;
2) Edgar Casey was actually a practicing Christian who taught Sunday School most of his life;
3) "Seth Speaks" was written by Jane Roberts, not Edgar Casey!! 8)

Peace be with you,
Beth

Latinas a few more points to deconstruct the argument,

The modern christian church does not accept the view of reincarnation because it can not hold control over a bunch of people that feel they can make up for everything they have done wrong within the next couple of incarnations, The church would dissipate.

The bible does talk about reincarnation. I'm not sure exactly which verse it is, but it mentions that Jesus was a reincarnation of the prophet Elijah.

Just because the term akasha is a Hindu term doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Even the bible talks about god's book of life, where every detail is written for the judgment and discernment of God (refer Dan 7:10, Rev 20:12, Philippians 4, Exodus 32:32, Psalm 139 etc) I petty sure correct me if I'm wrong anyone, that the term akasha comes somewhere from a sanskrit term, the oldest known language.

The akashic records is literally an impression of everything that has ever been done, said, felt, seen, etc. left as a library for astral travelers and guides to teach and learn from.

If the entity that channeled the information to Cayce was of an 'evil nature'  Cayce's own motives must have been of an evil nature too, Like attracts like. Cosmic Law. Pretty  hard to believe considering his background.
His motives were pure, that's why he was given the gift in the first place.

In regards to a true prophet never ever being wrong

1) the concept of time as we know it (linear) doesn't exist in the same way on the astral. All things are measured time wise by cause and effect.
A measurement of time is between when an action sets about a chain of events leading  to a desired effect. Hard to explain  without going into great detail.

2) If a prophesy doesn't become true, it may well be because some interaction has happened in between the time the prophesy was made and the relative time span  for when it was due to occur. Just the fact of someone reading the prophesy and taking action to stop it is enough for it to change somehow., or stop it from happening at all. Remember that the future isn't predestined. Our actions in the past and the present make certain alternatives/actions more or less viable and more or less likely to happen  in the future.

3) higher spirits, enlightened beings have the use of omnipresence, knowing all things, so they are more likely to know cause and effect than some weatherman. In truth they use statistical information for prediction, they have  a lot more for there discernment though to be able to make prediction.

4) you mention that when God said something was to pass it always did.
Was this something that God told you personally? Or did you read it from a book of channeled verse that may have come from some sort of evil/non-evil spirit?
I'm pretty sure that most of God's prophesies didn't come with a relative time span attached to them either.

In truth the bible has that many contradictions to its own beliefs that all in all most of it should be discredited.(Most, not all)
Do some researched into Cayce's channeling's and you'll probably see that most of them are given as a subjective guide, It's our choice to take them as literal or not. I'm sure his teachings don't ask people to believe them on a matter of faith.
I'm pretty sure the bible doesn't even mention this option somewhere in its preface!

P.S what makes you think there is a SATAN?

Latinas, I think that whole "Evil Spirit trying to deceive us" thing is basically a cop-out. I mean, if you believe that, you can just rationalize any evidence against god or Christianity as "the devil is tricking me" kind of thing. I really dont buy into any of that. Now, as for Edgar Cayce, I'm not sure if he is the real thing or not. Didn't he predict something like part of the United States going of into the ocean or something? Well, like I said, I need to look into it.
It's time to leave the  fundamentalists and the  relativists in the margins of history.

Cayce was the real deal, and he was channeling a highly evolved entity, even if that entity had its own Christian biasness (as did Cayce).

You might be interested to know that, the extremely popular personal Readings which Cayce was highly sought after, are also available today in another form, channeled by Jon C Fox, and the channeled entity being Hilarion (who was Plato the Philosopher, as well as one of the two Johns of the Bible).

The greatist trik the devil ever pulled was letting us belive he never existed.
And it is also stupid of humans to think that God is on vacation.
And it is also a very stupid thing to think whe can hide things from God.
He will confront us with our sins.

Because at judgement day our own hands will testify against us. At the end our hands shall speak.

Every day is judgment day, and most of us suffer the illusion of being separated from god.

(The first thing that popped into my head, please take it light. Peace.)

Edgar Cayce is a distinguished historical figure, representing the best of modern spiritualism in America. The inspirational and positive effect he had on people during his life time is even documented in mainstream media productions by Discovery and The History Channel.

Christianity is not false...Just the leaders it has had over the years have twisted it and themselves to fit a mold..Dont be to biased about the religions. they serve a purpose and at least allow people to believe in the one god. It could be worse. We could be worshipping men again... :-P
