What is love?

well, the greeks had a few different versions of love.

the first is the love of a family. the respect and caring that comes from living so closely with one another, that comes from blood-ties.

the second is the love that is shown to an enemy (or anyone you don't like) even if you don't want to. doing good deeds for them even if you really feel like just beating them over the head instead.

the third is the love of intimacy, or being close spiritually to someone: your spouse. the sharing of your soul where "two become one", and the goodness that comes from it.

the fourth is the love of a friend, the support and compassion that is shown to someone who has been kind and supportive to you.

of course, i'm not 100% sure on this, but that's what i remember. and of course, you can go into a lot more detail, but i think this should help you begin your journey for knowledge. as well, i pray for wisdom to accompany you on your journey. good luck [|)]

See topic titled "What is Evil" then take the exact opposite of the answers given.

Ummm....probably not a great deal of help eh![:I]

It's part way there though. If you could gather all of your emotions together, take away all the dark and negative ones, then sum up all of the good ones, that pretty much equates to love.

I see love as beeing a pure energy, that when it is realised, manifests itself into so many positive and uplifting ways within you, that by its very nature tends to spill out on to others, and has a similarly positive effect.

I see it as something that is very hard to describe in words. It requires being experienced.

My definition: The physical plane manifestation of regocnizing a familiar soul/soulmate. Accounts for a lot, imho.

FT,

If you mean love here in the physical, and in the universal sense, then it would have to be helping others.

Define evil. What is it? Does it have a taste? Can you touch it?

What is it?

Here's some things I came up with whilst struggling to sleep one night:

Love is not just an emotion. It is a force as well. It is also an energy, and not just that, the emotion generates energy. It is so many things and yet so many different things, but all defined by one word. There are different levels of love. Love you give by helping others. Love of two people's passions and caring for one another. And then the love of an object or feeling.

But the question is, do I love myself? Does anybody love themselves? I'm not even sure if I know who I am anymore...things seem to start crumbling away. Who am I? Why am I the way I am? I lie, I cheat, I hurt people, but at the same time, I make others happy, I love, I care. There are so many different aspects of me I don't know which one I am at any present time. Do humans have split personalities? Who are we?

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

Hi.

I was sitting in a _forced_ chapel service when this question popped into my head during the mind-numbing boredom I had at the time.

What is love?

I understand now that it is way more than just a simple emotion. Love is more complex than that...so just what is it?

Any feedback and ideas much appreciated.
