Let me pose several fundamental questions,

* What is the purpose of existence, life?
* Does life have any inbuilt meaning?
or
* Rather, does each mind perceive whatever purpose and meaning according to
each mind perspective and desires/motivations?
or
* Is life, existence just is, with no inbuilt meaning, thus no absolute belief systems; simply self awareness.

I think the issue/s is a matter of choice, and/or belief. In my opinion, belief motivates choice, so I think the root factor would be belief. Where these beliefs come from, is unknown to me. I would have to know the person who didn't get to go to college, at least somewhat if I were to make an educated stance. I dropped out of college because the chances of landing a job worth the money of otherwise continued investment was not good enough for me. If you ask me, I don't have a solid answer for you, because I did not stick around long at all, so it is impossible to answer from a graduate's point of view. However, me as I am, a dropout, in the middle of the spectrum of your question as I see it, can drag on the punchline an inch further by saying; Happiness is happiness, no matter how it is approached! Some people go about it differently, whether good, or evil.

Having graduated University and worked in various professional and management roles,
in my opinion, being able to use bills of exchange - negotiable instruments
is more valuable than formal education in the context of commercial transactions.

We conduct banking everyday whenever we engage with the public,
Corporation-Government-Banking legal fictions/agents in commerce.
Most feel disempowered because we are trained and conditioned to be slaves of the system.
Once you know that you are the "Creditor in Commerce" and comprehend their Codes,
you will feel more empowered in banking.

This is the case for everyone, no matter their situation. You have to be happy with what you have, be it a billion dollars in the bank or a billion in debt.

I can only suppose that you are struggling personally with college being your goal right now and this is why you assume that happiness hinges on it.
