No, nor do the spells used in Charmed, Sabrina, The Craft or Practical Magic - though I'd love to be able to light candles just by blowing on them - would save on matches and lighters. []

Also, the alien technology used in Stargate isn't real, there are no genetically engineered super-soldiers like in Dark Angel, and DragonBall Z really is only just a cartoon created by a bunch of Japanese animators who drink way too much coffee. The Truth might be out there, but neither David Ducovney nor Gillian Anderson will be able to tell you what it is.

Sorry to be blunt, but there's three words I want you to really consider here: FICTION and SCRIPT WRITERS

If you want to learn magic, or any of the other esoteric arts, please, please, please......don't pay any attention to what you see on TV. I used to love watching Buffy untill the TV stations here messed up its airing too much. I also love watching Charmed, it's one of the very few free to air TV shows I'll bother watching, but I compare it to my witchcraft practices the same way I compare Star Trek to my work with computer equipment - that is, not at all! It's just good fun to watch.

a general rule to follow is this:
if you see it on tv you cannot do it.
this is not absolute, in some cases they do make an accurate movie or tv show. The majority of the people however never catch these as they are not as interesting as "Charmed"

here we go, an accurate episode from charmed...

Phoebe: Piper, i'm having a problem with my boss at work, lets go do a spell to make her lighten up.
Piper: okie dokie. Lemme get my bucket of herbs and we'll do it.
*piper goes to the kitchen and phoebe goes up staris*
-cut to attic-
Phoebe: Alright lets see...a pinch of that, some of this, a leaf of those...got it.
Piper: Don't forget your wand!
Phoebe: oh yeah!....do we need Paige for this?
Piper: nah, it's easy enough.
*random chanting and waving sticks*

-cut to three weeks later-
Piper: so how's the boss?
Phoebe: she's doing better, i think that spell really is working! Of course it will take another 3 weeks for it to REALLY work, but i'm patient and willing to wait. After all you can't rush magic!

*crappy music and some clips of 'the book'*

Do the spells used on Buffy actually work (to move things, etc.)?  If not, does anyone know any spells to move things (not telekinesis)?  Or any other spells like this?
