Hi there,
I have little to no idea of what I'm talking about, so feel free to flame or simply correct my many misstakes.

The energy you work on with your tools should itself not e(a?)ffect them, but rather the idea-constructs behind them. If you, for example, pour red wine into a cup and the mental image of blood pops into your mind, then something is wrong with either yourself or the cup. I would imagine some sort mental work, such as a clensing wave of energy, or throwing the image into the sun, and reinforcing (concentrating on) the correct image would ave the desired effect over time.
Also not letting other people handle your tools might be a way to keep them free of contamination. In fact, closing off the entire altar area (Where you consider the limit goes. Could vary from a cupboard to miles around a temple.) to anything but intended work might be something worth concidering.

Now, I would like to remind you that I pulled this entire post out of my provebial butt, so unless you think it's a good idea, I suggest you incinnerate it with flames. [:o)]

Actually, consecrate means to make sacred.
[;)]
For simple cleansing, there are several ways... basically using the elements.
Running water, burying in Earth, salt is a purifyer as well, passing through flame, leaving out for Moon and Sun to irradiate.

which you use depends on what you want cleansed, of course, and do be careful with stones; a friend cleansed a selenite(?) wand in salt water and destroyed the finish.

Use intent when you're doing it, whichever course you choose, for best results... but the elements themselves will do the trick whether we want them to or not.

To consecrate, speak your charm or prayer during or after the cleansing.

but do not use that purifying rituals of LLTHH for the Crystals!
or you will empty them!
Crystals you only put on sun for One day.

you do not need Intent for cleansing!
(that is only what writters today are writting in their "magic" books: "for everything you need an Intent")

No it's not necessary to use intent for cleansing, but if you do it won't take as long.
Saving time is not always what you want, though.

If you're going to consecrate in the same session, you'll definitely want to use intent.
