Elemental Mage

I read about being an elemental mage from one of the posts here, but they didn't explain where to start so where do I start? I'm sure I could figure it out but I wouldn't mind help

then breath all the fire in through your skin like your skin is a big lung, breath it all in until you are on fire
compress the element within you and be the element, like the guy on fantastic four
you may get very warm that's normal, when you feel you have done enough breath it all out again

then do the same with the other elements in the same way
earth makes you heavy
water makes you cold
air makes you light
fire makes you warm

the elemental man has legs of earth a tummy of water arms and chest of air and a head of fire
visualise this

The Four Great Powers
As long as magic itself, one of the most fundamental abilities of a magician has been to attempt to control the four raw powers of the elemental system. The four refer to Fire, Air, Earth, and Water. The ability to feel these energies, understand them, and to move them is the study of the Elemental Mage. Throughout their practice different casters will experience different degrees of success no matter which art is practiced, but Elemental magic is often considered one of the most difficult arts to progress in and thus there are few practitioners. It is also difficult because of the nature of the magic itself: it deals purely with the real and tangible facets of the four elemental powers, not with the ethereal correspondences of the elements as an Enchanter would. As such, it tends to be seen as an "all or nothing" art where you clearly succeed or fail every time. Also, as a matter of practicality, few have a real need for this kind of power anymore (due to many of the necessities being provided for by technology) and thus the caste tends to be left behind, to a certain extent. Regardless of this fact, however, many have felt the call to gird themselves with elemental knowledge and harness the natural powers around them.

Focussing only on the physical manifestations of the four elements, each has unique uses and capabilities when properly applied. "Heat" energy, as we know it, is not perfectly synonymous with Fire magic. Though to an Elemental Mage the two are very similar, there is a missing aspect in the concept of heat which restricts it to this level. For the Elemental Mage, all things which produce heat are also giving off the mystical equivalent of heat energy. In this way, Fire energy can also be used to metaphysically detect things which produce heat, and even, in extreme circumstances, to focus the ethereal form of heat into a physical manifestation of flame itself, thus creating pure flame from seemingly nothing. Keeping in mind the physical principles governing combustion it becomes readily apparent why feats of this nature are rare, at best. Through enough practice and concentration, however, the Elemental mage learns how to absorb heat energy from all things around them, as a unified action, and bring it to bear against a target. This can be to warm the caster, to warm an inanimate target, or a friend. It can be used to find things generating heat, and to control preexisting sources of heat such as flame and mirage.

Air is another of the elemental manifestations, and is usually the first element an Elemental Mage finds control of. Due to its already volatile nature and tendency to change the Elemental Mage can find their first successes, usually, in attempts to change wind direction. Breezes can carry smell, keep away noxious fumes, cool the caster or something targetted by the caster, and may be the edge required to start a fire that just will not light. There are far too many uses of wind and air to be listed here; truly, we see the effects of wind every day, as even now we breathe the air and can describe what the wind conditions in our area are like. It can be used to regulate heat, it can affect our senses in various ways, and is an overall good place to start. Wind constantly moves, constantly changes, and in that spirit we may influence them without much resistance.

Earth, however, is the difficult counterbalance to Air. It is firm and reists all kinds of change, hence the Elemental Mage must exert themselves to a rare degree to find anything more than a nominal skill with this element. Earth is the foundation of most life, and by this merit it can be used to lend aid to dying plantlife, choke out undesired plantlife, sense creatures within the caster's spell range, and to basically know that which the earth would be able to relate (not as an intelligent entity, but as an extension of one's own senses, such as feeling the tremors of other animals, feeling the stability of a certain area to step on, etc.) Some Elemental Mages claim the ability to predict and cause certain events such as earthquake, famine, drought, siroccos, frost, snow, hail, sleet, fog, and other types of natural manifestation by making full use the the Earth element to gain knowledge and control of the environment.

Lastly, there is the practice of controlling the water. Water can be used in much the same way as Earth in that the tremors it carries can be interpretted by the Elemental Mage to extend their range of sensation and know things they would normally be oblivious to. Water abides in many of the things that we see daily. The air contains some, the ground contains some, and various materials or substances (including human flesh) have quantities in them. Elemental Magic concerning water can be seen in a great deal of cultures which still rely heavily on agriculture, and in the history of cultures which did. The "Rain Dance" is a prime example of water elemental magic at work. To cause rain to fall at will, or conversely, as the Biblical characters of Moses, Elijah, and the Two Prophets of Revelation 11, to cause it to stop is the baliwick of the elemental magician.

The abilites of the Elemental mage varies greatly, and intimate knowledge of the elements gives intimate knowledge of the physical world around and its innermost mechanics. To truly understand the world around an Elemental mage is only a matter of learning and harnessing the ways of nature.

I am not entirely sure, but more sure than not sure...
An Elemental Mage does and says as was said above.  There is an important aspect of it which is missing.  The Elements themselves, are quite likely each a sentient aspect of the 'crystaline moment' of existential immersion.  You can sit there and focus fire until your head explodes, the simple way is to communicate to the elements, and correspondingly, they will allow elemental use as they grant it of their own trust and capacity.

Perhaps you have heard about Crowley and how, near the end of his days, he began addressing trees and stones with a tip of his hat and a stern but swift "Good day to you!".  Perhaps Crowley is not so fine an example (I have love for the man due to personal relations and consideration), but it does make sense to say that Universal Communication is the staple of a good mage.  People today, using English to an obscene excess, have lost fundamental communication capacity with the elements, hence, there are few people able to wield elementals due to the fact that the sentient and interactive 'elements' themselves of the elements are not being respected.

In a rare video often played on the secret televisions, Crowley, for his part, convinced an average 'piece of glass' to expand and concentrate into an alternate Universe, thereby revealing all such prophetic necessity as can be claimed to have baring on the fate and will of the Universe.  After this 'black hole' had been opened, Crowley convinced the 'piece of glass' to return to being a normal piece of glass.  In terms of pure quantum/ particle physical existence, the elements themselves can interchange, reorganize, and develop into any monstrosity that may be desired of them.  Respect of the Elements and their Consciousness is the key thing, but just because you are nice to them and talk nice and make good words does not guarantee that they will always, one hundred percently so, cooperate.

When you see the 'livingness' of the elements in nature, and how they all interact to form the symbiotic template for our souls to interact and that the elements actually compose our bodies and sustain our existence, it becomes a grand and great pleasure to communicate with them.  As in my case, talking nice to an old coal stove that had never recieved the respect it deserved kept it going all night long, and each time that I checked it, and petted it, and even gave that old, angry stove a hug, I could hear a little voice saying nice things and blushing in it's words... the benefit of schizophrenia, to know that it is all 'living matter'.  The old stove worked properly ever since, and I can't help but feel charmed inside that my own interaction with it helped it gain the 'stuff of snuff' that it needed to keep the coal burning.  What clued me in to this?  When I took the shovel, and was pushing the coal into the stove mouth, I heard them say, "We are the shovel and the coal, and we don't really like you!!"  At that time, I too was angry, but now, have only pleasant images of a stove that really puts out the heat and is busy inside of itself, a stove that is happy that at least one person realized that it is not just a lump of inanimate steel, but a living, active member of that household and the very reason that life can stay in that house at all in the wintertime.

Appreciation, Respect, Sincerity, and Honesty, these will take you far in elemental wielding, to the point that they will actually automatically help you if you really need them.  I will say here, do not go looking to uselessly shoot a fire ball out of your hands, or, to become wholly and perfectly immune to the effects of fire.  The elements, in what I do know, shun and scorn greed for their powers and forms, and will punish.  It is like going for a walk in the woods without first greeting the woods and all who dwell in it... you might very well end up in the belly of a wolf, for a simple disregard of the life that they live and the disrespect that can make them WANT to eat you, as punishment.  I well know that one little bird can lead a man to a meal, and they are more willing to love you than to eat you. 

That is my advice.  If you are fortunate, this summer in the lightening storms, use your empathy, intuition, and logical faculties, and if you can dare it in the bravery of your honest soul, you might see and hear the bolt and quake of the heavens, and they will guide you to a higher respect.  Listen to the elements, firstly, before outright as a fully infused and blooded mage, to dare to think to harness their infinite energy and control them!

You can actually control elements? Sorry I'm pretty new here, can you do other things with it other than warm your body? Like set things on fire etc?

A customer/friend of mine at work (who is a very powerful magical practitioner) has burned his foot by meditating on a candle.  He focused so intently and singularly on the candle flame that a 2nd degree burn actually manifested on his foot.  I saw the burn with my own eyes.  Some people may not believe him, but I trust him.  He has showed me on numerous occasions that he is not only powerful (I have seen him "cloudburst" with his mind and I can feel him walking up the block when he comes to my store, his will is so strong that I know he's coming when he's still 2+ blocks away, though that might be saying more about me than him).

THE ELEMENTS SIMPLIFIED IN LOGICAL PROCESSING, basic definitions and alternates

Fire
intense heat, agitation
likened to sexual excitement
fire burns like lust, eating away the Faith
fire can also be pure fun excitement
fire is also destruction and banishing, as the arousal of fire energy centers the self and nullifies external focus
fire energy burns away the external world and it's parasitic magnetic links or resonance
fire is mostly sexual, but also destructive

Water
water is akin to wisdom, as it flows and yet there is no end to the riddles which bubble forth
water is also focus, which can be still, moving with the tide of time, or pooling into the reservoir of the mind
water energy is flexible, soft, it is the energy of peace which remains after a storm

Air
likened to emanation, air energy is both drawn and expelled to form a pattern, it is the area of vibrations and their frequencies
air is intelligence, the ability of words and understanding... being drawn from the complete combination of fire and water, it is both sexual and wise, yet, has great power for wrath, due to it's energy and intelligence in judgement
air energy is discernment and is closely related with emotions, it is invisible yet carries the force of the visible

Earth
earth energy is the result of the perfect combination of a 1.core of fire 2.power of water 3.density and flow(flux) of air... earth composes the physical realm and reacts based on the balance of fire, water, and air
earth energy is the solidified emanation of love and consciousness, it is a vibration that has been balanced and harmonized to the extent that it remains so long as there is balance
earth energy is motherly by it's nature, hence, "Mother Nature"... earth grows nourishment and provides a medium for new cores of fire and minds of peace to grow, while the air continuously feeds the entire system

Light
light is the release of earth into the celestial... when earth wears out and has advanced in love, courage, and strength, it becomes the living liquid.. light
light energy is a state of being, and tempered by perfect silence, creates amazing and miraculous effects by mere presence alone, also the interchange of faith, hope, and trust in the power of Life
Light comes before fire, yet light has surpassed all sexual lusts, ill reasonings, hatred, and deception, thereby, Light is an element of Truth and Life
when you become Light, new elements and processes will open themselves to you

That is an explanation of the basic elements.  Now, we move into an area that I am not entirely certain of, however, am drawing from baseline derivative extraction period.

These elements which here follow are like portions or alternate identities of the primary Five Elements.  More study of the pentagram is required.

Steel
steel is an element of dark emotion, it is the side of the earth element which increases it's hatred, enmity, and malevolent destructive power
steel is very hard, and lays deep in the earth.. there are various qualities of steel
steel is equated with the riches of the world, as gold, silver, nickel, copper, lead, and so forth.. for it, men will raise up pillars of steel or launch steel at each other to take the other's steel
steel reflects light, if it is not reflecting it, it is absorbing it and 'stealing' the light away... pursuing a steel element base will only be useful in certain situations, and it is toxic to the touch, thereby it is also equated with 'poison'

Ice
ice energy is the development into a water base after which, one loses their core of fire.. being devoid of any sexual emotion or attraction, the water becomes ice
ice is cold, it can not move, it is crystaline and also absorbs light, trying to recover from it's loss of flame
pure ice types will usually be very flaccid, yet, their knowledge will be refined to the point that they can utter a word and with a chill, it passes across the land.. ice is likened to the emotion of fear, yet also, isolation

Synth or (sound)
sound expends light to produce it's vibration, and is a detraction from the purity of Silence
synth energy is likened to hunger, and also, foolishness.. a man will talk until he is so tired that he must eat, and because he does not work, he will run out food and then complain.. talking and mindless chatter and a lying tongue are all bound up in synth, which is also anger, bitterness, strife, contention, and arguement.. it is quick to respond, and judges without listening to the vibration, even the vibration of it's own voice
it can be likened unto haste in wrongdoing, and the effect is annoyance and a breaking of trust

Darkness
darkness is when the mind can not see, or hear, or move, or heal itself
it is the shadow that passes on a man when he is not paying attention to his needs, and his body atrophies, his mind becomes dim, and he loses his ability to think, remember, and to will himself to a living dream
darkness is the energy of death, and ends in hell
it comes from an unwillingness to live, or to be active, or to stop living in a way that does not bring one to a state of Light and Life

Electricity
electricity is not negative in the sense that it is a failure to achieve something in the elements
it is the result of proper breathing which generates static in the body that feeds the nervous system and blood kinetic energy
if you build up high amounts of electricity, you can presumeably levitate, heal yourself and others, and even shoot Sith Bolts or Levin... lightening
it is the action of air within the water, which produces a non sexual type of fire, which is the electricity

Magnetism
the law of attraction, it is also the gravity of your focus and positioning within the earth
magnetism is the action of water powered by fire to effect the air
it is likened to thought and memory, and provides the medium for new experiences to be made presentable to the consciousness
magnetism works in the way that the longer you spend 'heating your water', the more effect in the air you will get, it is an internal incubation of thought, desire, and reflection

Cartoon
this energy is enjoyed by children who are in touch with the dreamstate
cartoon energy is not a bad thing, it is the result of Light that has been stored in the consciousness and released in periods of darkness to the celestial
it is an animate force, but itself is not an animating power, it is trying to be said that it is the result of stored and released light, and as such, can be likened to the stage of existence between Life, Death, and Rebirth
it is highly vivid, and very holographic, it has an existence, that existence, however, is fully dependant on the consciousness which is releasing the Light
Cartoon energy can be likened to astral travel, in that your dream state becomes a living holographic playground where anything can be experienced out of conscious motivation
