I am really very good with tarot cards and readings!

I have friends that call me and put their friends on the phone just so I can give them a reading, (which I sometimes refuse, just based on the individuals attitude)

I just want some insight as to how you guys feel about professional readings and weather or not you feel it's Psychically Ethical???  I know all the ethics of reading the cards.  Things you should and should not tell people....like when they will die or whatever..I say it that way because my cards never give me things like that.  Always, just whatever message needs to be given.

So, what do you think?? Readings for money??  It could really help people.. and I'm not a scammer.  It would be nice to do something for a living that I love, that helps people, and keeps me afloat.

What do you guys think????

Hi Monicat,

A very common question - frequently asked by those who have the skills, and frequently criticised by those that don't.

Tarot readers, as with many other psychic practitioners (genuine ones) are actually spiritual healers, bringing guidance and insight to others with the goal of improving their lives.

Yes, it is ethical, providing your intention is right, as long as you genuinely desire to give people "life healing" guidance, and you are not telling them what will or won't happen, but rather showing them what their possibilities and potentials are.

The second point I feel to be very important.
I have a real grudge against tarot readers who insist on telling people what will or won't happen in their future. That, I feel, is un-ethical.
Giving them guidance, showing them the possibilities - what they have the potential to achieve, and what things they should be wary of in such a way that they know the choice is still theirs to follow the advice or not, that is ethical.

As to the money aspect - knowledge is a valuable comodity. Anybody who has spent time and effort gaining knowledge and skills has every right to place a value on what they've gained.
If you do not know how to fix a computer, and you wish to go to someone who has spent time learning how to fix them, you would expect to pay for their time.
A person who goes to a tarot reader for guidance should expect no less.

Though I am not at the moment practicing professionally, I'm a trained and experienced in Numerologist. Like a tarot reader, I can provide people with life healing guidance. At the moment I work to provide tools and training to people who are practicing professional numerologists (many of whom are also tarot readers). They get a great ammount of satisfaction from what they do, and their clients always leave feeling that they got excellent value for their money.

If you do go professional, trust that the right people will be brought to you for advice, people who will get the most benefit from your particular style. The spirits that are working with you will see to that.

Blessings,
James.

Thanks James.  That was a great reply!  I really appreciate it.

Funny thing..as I was reading your reply, my good friend called.
Her roommate jumped on the phone and talked to me about a reading I gave her almost a year ago.  I had all of the notes so I pulled them out while we were talking.  She thanked me because even though things didn't come out like she had planned, I really prepared her for that transition.

I just thought it was interesting that it happened while I was going over this post!

Thanks for your insight!

That's great Monicat!
And you're welcome. :)

That's an excellent example of what can happen from a reading.
The future's never written in stone. The kind of symbology and images given in tarot rarely allow an "exact" picture to be shown, there's always room for interpretation. But what you've done is shown your friend a possibility.

Things might not have happened as she expected, which again is part of the interpretation, but you'd given her enough guidance and fore-knowledge to be prepaired for something to happen, and it sounds like it really helped her out.

That's what it's about. Helping people to help themselves.

Well done!

:)

I agree with James on most, but I do disagree on the money part.  Money is better as an agent of corruption than power ever was or will be!  I have seen a few great tarot interpreters loose sight of spirituality and morality because they started relying on the readings to bolster their income.  I feel that the best commodity is friendship!  If you are doing readings for people, just ask for a return favor, and never read for someone you don't know well.  That last is for two reasons: 1) it helps with not having to charge since you won't see that person again, and 2) readings come a lot clearer if you have more knowledge about the person.

Now, this only pertains to SETTING PRICES on readings.  If you imply that you wouldn't mind the "donation" now and then, ya know, just as compensation of what the other sees as fair for your time and effort, that is fine.  Just don't fall into the trap of giving only the best interpretation of the cards so that you coffer is more full!

Just pros and cons as I see them, both ways have ups and downs.

Wizard of Light

I'm so sorry, bloodsong, but I disagree with knowing people better makes the reading easier.  Knowing people better merely means that you can read in information that you already know.  When you don't know them, and don't really know their current situation, you allow the channel to be open much clearer and can receive truly unbiased information from spirit to pass on to the client.

I do take money for what I do.  If I did not, I would not be able to hardly do any of this spiritual work - I WOULD HAVE NO TIME!!  I'd be too busy earning a living.  I feel that I was given this gift for a reason, and it would be a crime to leave it unused.

I have worked in this industry for several years now, and my focus remains the same - on the people I help.  I have heard of and seen some people who lose sight of that, and become focused on the money.  They haven't lasted so long after that.

All I can say is, there needs to be some energy exchange involved, when you give a reading.  It can't be all you giving to others, with nothing in return.  If you feel this is the right path for you, then go for it.  I believe that spirit will help you on the correct path for you, and remind you when you start to stray.
And he said "Let there be light", and so there was.
