Title: magical instruments
Post by: wow_nonamesleft on April 10, 2008, 09:33:50
Just wondering about a few things...

What is the purpose of having something like a wand or staff, if the ability magic is in you.  Does it assist in preforming magic? How so?

Since, these are just normal objects with the belief that they are magical, does it make it reasonable to use any object as a instrument - sword, pencil, banana peels?

How do you know what materials to use in your wands or staffs? Is it even nessesary to have certain components?

Items used in rituals are used to evoke certain ideas, feelings, & emotions into the subconscious that are needed for the particular ritual. The item itself doesn't have any special power, it's just used as a symbol. Items, clothing, decorations, lighting, incense, etc. are all meant to create a mood and feeling conductive to the ritual that most couldn't do on their own.

The symbolism a sword carries would probably have a greater effect on the subconscious than a banana peel. These symbols have been used for eons specifically for the purpose of ritual, which is probably one reason why they have a greater effect.

I should also note that I've never been a part of any kind of magickal ritual, so it's not first hand knowledge.

My room at normal, is just my room... it makes me think of mudane things like homework, papers, friends, and family members.  When I make sacred space in my room, I light incense... and light candles, and turn out the lights, and maybe put flowers and stones in a circle and play celtic music or something... the transformation in my room makes me think of spiritual things, like guides, who I am, my future, my ancestors, my purpose in life...

Magickal instruments like the wand or sword, make me feel powerful when I hold them.  I get tingles down my spine, and the instruments become programmed with my intent when I use them over a long period of time.  My bond with the instrument creates a feeling of faith due to past success, and it stregnthens my visualizations and make the magickal working more real on the physical plane.

Well its hard to find the proper magical instrument but MONEY works the best - it reaches even to magical levels, while its hard to imagine that instrument in a proper ritual.

While magicans collect MANA to charge their instruments my instrument is self rechargable/ theoretically transferable muahaha

I can certainly see how money works as such a tool.     Money is a pretty good spell on its own too.

Actually, that was a brilliant analogy.
Money is a tool and a symbol.  It's a symbol of power- the power of acquisition.
As are magical tools.
You can add sacred symbols and icons to the list- they all connect you to your manifesting ability, and remind you of the connection either via archetypal imaging or just your own personal assignment.
So to a religious person an icon can evoke feelings of protection, love, and/or guilt, depending on said icon, a talisman will connect to the protective aspect or archetype, and a dollar bill can either evoke the power of acquisition, or the idea of lack, depending on the consciousness of the individual.

A magical tool or instrument is defined by the  aspect that it can program the consciousness thru a  bound or gate to the subconsciousness.

The manifesting ability of this tool is hard to define.

The manifesting result is just temporary. As less the manifest is hit by the element of time, as long it will remain.

It works quite similar to a computer program, but its doesnt says anything about the proper function.

Its kind of hard to find an instrument which reaches far beyond an individual's mind.

Advanced mages dont need any tools to be successfull as expected.I guess that belongs to the Icemagic, because a minimum of movement is used.

More advanced mages even dont need any results. I guess that belongs to the Airmagic/Mirrormagic,
because not the results are researched but the volume and the dynamics of a spell.
Airmagic is also voicemagic(politics) and music.Music or math is just a plain mirror seen magically.

Subconsciousness is a dangerous tool to work with it as single, but it works good as well, expect subconsciously.

A magical weapon creates a distance/pre-resistance to the opponent, because without this large distance/pre-resistance the opponent is not hard to hit.
Its like using a reverb in music - it simulates a room and the opponent is hit by a mood connected to this room.Without this reverb music may sound plain, hot and rhythmic -simulating the opponents's heart. :-D

symbols, colors, shapes, sounds are applying to materials.
There is not a transistion between magik and material.

I think magic is a type of manipulation of material.

Before I go any fruther, what exactly do people believe 'magic' is?

That's what I think it is- magic is how we consciously create, as opposed to unconsciously, which is how most people create.  Same thing, different words.

Does it assist in preforming magic? How so?
As a focusing device.

Since, these are just normal objects with the belief that they are magical
To begin with they are not considered 'magical' in and of themselves.

How do you know what materials to use in your wands or staffs?
Different traditions dictate which materials to use.

what exactly do people believe 'magic' is?
Magic (or magick, aka ceremonial magic - as compared to stage magic) by definition is considered to be the utilization of arcane mental energies to bring about change in the material world.

you'll find the tool but you will forget the functionality or you find out how it works but u lose the tool....
also you lose all tools if u wake up . you will wake up to functionality...
and your functionality is the task to look for the tool.
