THE LAW OF NAMES

The name once given a person was their being, put into words so they could be spoken.
All High Magic is the art of Change of Being.  You might first learn to see or visualize  something;  then in time you learn how to feel what it is feeling.  And finally you can BE the object of attention.  THEN you can say you are "in the name of..." as you and that being are one.
The roots of the word "Know" don't relate to intellect.  They relate to the Spiritual being, the real you, and to "know" something was to Be that object of attention.

what do you define as being a person's "true name"?  is it simply just your full name, like first, middle and last?  or are you referring to something a little more... uhhh... "mystical"?  i mean, in this society, we're always having to give our full names out all the time, so anyone can access it whenever... they can just look at your driver's license, or ask someone who knows you well, or something like that.

Curiousgirl, your True Name is not the name your parents gave you.  It is found in the more spiritual realm(s).  If you can't get to these realms yourself, there is always the off-chance you might run into an expert projector or mystic who cares about you enough to get your Name for you.  But for the most part, unless you are serious about this Path, it is probably better that you don't know it anyway.

Well, we all have a name our parents gave us.  As has been stated at certain stages in the training in an esoteric school, you may find a name that when ou hear it you'll realize that it was always your name.
I trained in the Himalayas with a person a very, very long time ago.  The person told me that in a future life I would remember him and so on.  And he called me by a name.  This life I was meditating one day in an eastern school I work within, and I heard that name.  And for a moment there I was, back in that location again with him...just so he was sure I would have recall.
From then on that name is used by him and any on the inside who approach me.  It is their way of letting me know that they come from HE who sent us.
And there is a name which cannot be pronounced.  When that becomes your name, the heavens will grow silent, and the Manvantara will bow to YOU.  So names have various depths of meaning.  For now, curiousgirl probably describes your true essence more than your "legal" name would.

If you know the complete and true TOTAL name of a phenomenon or entity, you will understand it, and therefore have control over it.

This Law has a basis in ancient history and fact:  Once upon a long time ago, with the ancient languages, a name for something was literally its definition.   By hearing a name, a person understood, automatically, what/who was being described.  For instance, an airplane would not have been an airplane in ancient times.  It would have been a "big silver people carrier flying fast and high in the sky like a bird with wings that don't move."

Nowadays, names may not be so descriptive, but they still have associative value. They are memory gimmicks; they remind you of things.

Clever use of Names in your magick workings can literally change reality.  The Law of Words of Power is a "sub-law" of the Law of Names.  Certain words can literally change the inner and outer realities of a situation.  Of course, I'll never tell you what these words are, BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

It is wise to be careful about revealing your True Name to a person until you trust him completely.
