My name is Ian. I'm 24 years old, and I've been lurking here on and off for over a year now. I grew up and still live in Massachusetts.

I've been trying to recreate a small handful of experiences I had when I was 14-15 years young. First, I've had what I believe to be an unconscious OBE. My vision is blurred and bright, and I was approaching the top of my stairs. When I got to the top of the stairs, I quickly realized I was out of body. The excitement of this revelation snapped me back in body, waking up in a cold sweat.

Second, I had at least three unconscious "trance states" at this age too. What I mean by "trance" is this: I was in bed experiencing sleep paralysis, but otherwise I was completely awake. While I was in this sleep paralysis, I felt the immensely powerful sensation of "energy" at my feet, slowly traveling up my body. At the time, I thought I was either being "scanned" or I was about to be abducted by aliens. So needless to say, I was scared and focused all of my thought to fighting off these sensations.

It wasn't until last year, when I found myself reading into lucid dreams and OBEs, that I understood that I may have missed out by being afraid of these sensations.

I went so far as to get the first disc of The Gateway Experience offered by The Monroe Institute. I hit a plateau at about, what I would personally call Focus 3. The sensations were familiar, but far weaker than I remember the spontaneous trance, which I would call, in hindsight, Focus 10.

I've had only a couple of dreams where I became lucid, but they were shortlived. The first time, the dream "flooded" with water and caused me to wake up. The second time, I was lucid and trying to will myself out of body by intending to fly (only thing I could think of). But I was grabbed by a mob of shadow people. They pulled me down as I was trying to float. When I was sent to the ground, I woke up. Those are the only two I remember, and I have a lot of trouble remembering my dreams thereafter.

This has become very important to me. If these experiences were glimpses into a part of myself that's been neglected, I figure it could help me cope with my problems. I could go on and on about that. All I'll say is I've got to decide whether or not to call the psychologist to schedule a second assessment for schizophrenia. I don't take any medications or anything, but I may start soon. So I'm also wondering how medication could affect my aspirations to explore this phenomenon further.

I'd like to be able to induce an OBE or a lucid dream on a nightly basis, like some of you do.

I hope to get to know some new friends too!
