I am quite impressed with your forum, and I hope I will get to know you all. Welcome to the forum.

I've had a fair amount of personal experience with shadow people. I'll just post it here, if you don't mind, since others have asked about this topic.

The first I ever heard of them was from a close friend of mine. He said he and his family were sitting in the living room watching TV when the shadows of two children ran across the room. Everyone got spooked and they had members of their church come into to do their version of a cleansing.

The second time I heard about it was from a roommate of mine. He would speak about always seeing them after being awake for a long time (as a result of methamphetamine use).

I'd seen glimpses of shadow people a few times before this. After delving into metaphysical matters and practicing meditation, I saw them quite frequently late at night when I drove around the neighborhood. In one instance, I thought I saw someone step out into the road in front of me. I swerved, but luckily kept the car under control and there were no incoming cars at that moment.

At the same period of time, I would often see shadow-like or completely realistic spiders crawling on the walls of my apartment or bed on waking, and sometimes during the evenings. Since I moved from that apartment, I haven't seen any.

My opinion is that at least part of the time what someone believes is a shadow person is a hallucination created in the brain. For instance, you catch glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye that looks like a person. If you look again, you'll often see a hydrant or garbage can there, that in the night-time with lots of shadows and from the corner of your eye, your mind will interpret as a person.

Not all of the shadow people experiences can I easily discount as this, however. Sometimes you will see them strait on (for instance, all the spiders I ever saw, I saw clearly, looking straight ahead). Sometimes you see them where no other shadows exist, such as against a plain white wall.

There are a few ideas about these shadow people (other than a purely skeptic/critic's view). One is that you are partly seeing with "astral sight". I've also heard them explained as people who are sleeping and running about in their astral or etheric "bodies". Another is that you are seeing bleed-through from an alternate dimension, quantum reality, etc. A fourth idea holds that these are evil spirits, demons, or negs. From my personal experiences and studies, I feel the last is the least likely. Some people have reported seeing all shadow people with glowing red eyes. I have never seen this.

I have no conclusive opinion on shadow people. I wish I were more certain that what I believe to be auras or etheric matter were actually so, or that shadow people really were more than illusions. Right now I can't say that for sure.

Thank you for your insight. It was appreciated, although, no offense meant, many of these theories are popularly stated on several sites. I found your encounter with the spiders very intriguing though. It is a more unique case.
