"waking hallucinations" got me here

Hello all - I started having what most would call sleep paralysis about four years ago. Vivid perceptions involving sight, sound, and touch. Sometimes creepy, sometimes ordinary - although many were clearly impossible (such as a family member who was 1,000 miles away being in the room).
Others were more bothersome: a noise that shouldn't be there, feeling things touching me, or in one case, a violent shaking of the bed. All these things vanish as soon as I "wake up" or move. I was never really paralyzed, but often spooked enough that I'd just hold as still as I can. Eventually I learned that I could roll over and 99% of the time it would stop.
When I read it was possibly a paranormal thing that could take you out of body, I decided to "roll with it" on the more benign episodes. Never did I actually think it was real or that demons were trying to get me. But they sure feel real at the time! And they don't happen when I'm asleep or dreaming. They happen when I'm awake but starting to drift off.
I've always considered myself a very rational person and I'd scoff at a lot of this New Age stuff with all the pseudo-scientific language. I trust science in general - my father worked in computer astronomy in the '60s - but scientific dogma seems to have taken over. I particularly dislike modern pharmacology, oops I mean modern medicine. A UFO sighting a year ago pried my mind open.
Well, that's my story. By the way the experiences come at random and unpredictable intervals. Sometimes several nights in a row, then not at all for months.
I just listened to Whitley Strieber's "Dreamland" interview on the subject. Looking forward to learning more!

none of this is unusual and there is even a scientific term for it, hypnagogic hallucinations.

when you're going to sleep (especially if you feel sleep paralysis during this time - which isn't what that is actually called, sleep paralysis is when you wake up and you're paralyzed, you were just feeling your mind withdraw inwards and away from physical sensation) your mind is shutting of awareness of physical sensory input.  sometimes that process causes things to "appear to you", which can be visual, aural, tactile, etc.

perfectly normal.

if you mentally interact with the hallucinations you are starting the process of phasing, which is a form of out of body experience.
be awesome.

You can share your experiences here, get feedback, ask more questions that will arise when you have more experiences, read about other people's experiences, and find a lot of information about the non-physical.  :-)
