Title: Channeling John Gardner
Post by: chill on January 01, 2004, 12:32:49
I could not connect to John Gardner. The only 'thing' I could connect with so far is my 'higher self'. I got this information :

1. First read The Art of fiction.
2. It's God you really want to speak to.
3. Someone is 'watching over' you.

If the questions are coming from another member, I may get an answer, I could then channel for that one person. Perhapse.

topic ? or author ? over the time my taste in literature has evolved, but over that same time period, and still now, there's been a few constants. For one, I value the honesty of the writer, honesty to tell it like it really is... for his caracters. Also I prefer all techniques to be invisible, so that when I read a book I forget that there are in it such things as plot, characterization, point of view. I want to step out of the page, lose focus of the words, and get lost in a dream, the dream that the writer had and wanted to share, as honestly and as accurately as he could..

So does that mean you can or cannot (personally) visualize in Shakespeare?

I love, LOVE Hamlet (own the complete works of Shakespeare), I have Lawrence Oliviers Hamlet and Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet both of which I adore. And I have a televised play of The Tempest with Richard Burton.

It's not an intellectual contest (a lot of people get intimidated by Shakespeare), I love the classics, Mythology (Greek, Norse, Egyptian, British), Charlemagne, Arthur, and later on Shakespeare. I just keep inquiring if there is someone else out there.

Ahhh, now I get it!
Thank you Chill.

"Consultant on all subjects"
"& general good advice"

Yep, that'd make for some good channelling.

I thought that'd make you smile.

But to be serious, if I could have one mentor, dead or alive, I'd chose him, without any doubt. And I need a mentor. And he's dead.

I see now how that could be a bit of an inconvenience.

I do hope then that you get somewhere with this. At least you know WHO and WHAT it is you are trying to talk to.

Good luck [:)]

[:D]  Just a small point, I'm sure, but the creator of James Bond was none other than Ian Fleming:

Ian Fleming (1909-1964) created the character of James Bond, who debuted in the 1952 novel Casino Royale.

I'd noticed that too Nick.

There was a few of the Bond novels written by John Gardner, but not until the 80's. Ian Flemming definitely is the creator of Bond.

THIS THREAD IS
for
CONVERSATION TRANSCRIPTS WITH JOHN GARDNER THE NOVELIST -  NOT THE CREATER OF JAMES BOND BUT THE OTHER ONE
and
QUESTIONS FOR HIM

This thread has been created so that members can have clear access to the INFORMATION provided by John Gardner in answer to any questions submitted by any Astral Pulse member, which will be (are you ahead of me ?) addressed by me in person who will be, I hope, in direct communication with the help of some kind of reticuli via a telepathic "hook-up" provided by some guide somewhere, at certain 'arranged times' on a more or less regular basis, based on my mood and Gardner's and God's will.

This "Friendly"-Talking with Gardner opens up new frontiers for information about writer's block, the art of fiction, the craft of writing novels, the benefits or relevance of literature, etc. And this is especially needed at this time due to the fact that so many people want to write, and less and less people want to read. There have been so many books written on the craft of novel writing that it's hard to differentiate between the good and the meek. Now you can put YOUR questions forward and get the "facts" for you to discuss here on the Astral Pulse.

Common sense dictates that you should never just 'believe' what you read, but instead should discuss it with an open positive approach.  So, feel free to start your own thread if you like on any topic John Gardner give answers to - but you should do that in the Writers corner. Questions to John Gardner should be posted here, but discussion over his answers should be posted in the other section. Thank you very much for your comprehension.

Because this is such an important opportunity for all to learn more, this thread should be made a 'sticky'.

All that I ask is... that members have an open mind with a positive approach.  So post whatever questions you like here for him - and I hope he will answer them through me !

ABOUT JOHN GARDNER THE NOVELIST

John C. Gardner was a poet, a novelist, a dramatist, a translator of medieval texts, and a creative writing teacher who was killed in 1982 at age 49 in a motorcycle accident. Gardner was raised just outside of Batavia , NY, attended school through grade 11 in Alexander, NY, and graduated from Batavia High School in 1951.

He wrote three influential works on the art of writing : On Becoming a Novelist, The Art of Fiction, and On Moral Fiction. I read the first and last one. I own a copy of The Art of Fiction which I intend to read sometime in January. Many of his students, such as Raymond Carver and Charles Johnson, have had successful publishing careers.

He taught creative writing at many universities, among them Chico State, Bennington College, and SUNY-Binghamton.

His novels Grendel, The Sunlight Dialogues, and October Light are regarded as modern classics.
