It is common to put energy in objects and to include specific thoughts with that energy. If you use affirmations, for example, you can fill a pendant with energy and the specific thought that you use for an affirmation. By wearing it next to your skin, you will be allowing it to radiate that affirmation to you continuously.

I've done it only once, on my brother's motorbike, after he had an accident(when we bought that bike we have found out that it had at least 5 serious accidents with it's former owners, one on the same day the first owner bought it, we named the bike "CZ Hellfire" because of that). After enchanting it bike became more safe, and gearbox works MUCH better(before it was nearly impossible to switch to 1st gear without damaging gearbox, and now it's easy).

I think that trance and focusing on the intent is enough, but adding some runes on the item would also be nice.

I do have some ideas from my own experiences such as raising energy with passion etc. Several things I own have gained a combination of energy and emotion/memory and intent. I don't believe formal magical practices have any extra value unless the practitioner has used these with ALL the mental/spirit ingredients for years as well. i.e. a rune on it's own with a little "play" intent won't do anything, however any symbol rune or otherwise can be turned into a powerful focus if the intention, the emotion and the spirit are completely committed and engaged in the act.  Hence why magic was always quite a discipline-you have to engage ALL of who you are for a time on a particular goal to achieve it.

Here's a great page on enchantment (http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/tomekeeper/types/enchanting.html)... It might be wise to read the original pages (http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/tomekeeper) first though.
