They did, their just backing down from it, like canada will.

Its just going to completly ruin the planet.
We are not truly lost, until we lose ourselves.

Jenadots

The main problem with the treaty was that it did not limit developing countries much in their use of fossil fuels.  Rather, it encourages them to follow in the footsteps of the industrialized countries - to build their industries based on fossil fuels.  If the treaty, and the industrialized countries would encourage the development and use of alternative fuels and viable, renewable energies while working on cold fusion, I think the objections to it would fade away.

Fossil fuels is only part of the problem, of course.  Invention of new and cleaner energy systems and technologies is also a part of it. The multi-national corporations seem to like things just the way they are.  So we can all hope that the proverbial "better mousetrap" gets invented by someone who can bring it to market and get us all off oil and coal.

Of course, the fuel issue is just a part of the cycle that has led to the global warming.  I can certainly understand the billions of people in the world who want to rapidly improve their standard of living.  If they had an alternative to fossil fuels, perhaps they would develop their industries in a cleaner way.

I wish my country would lead the way in that area, but it doesn't seem to be happening.  Of course, the way things are now, even if the USA was developing alternatives, we would get bashed for that too.

We humans, collectively, have despoiled our own nest.  It is up to us to start demanding alternatives from our corporations and governments.  Cleaning up the mess of the past two hundred or so years will be another challenge.

I do believe global warming is a part of the future.  How severe it becomes depends on actions or inactions in our own time.

Plant a lot of tree's and get your emition test done many times a year.

crazy_colombiang

what is the emition test?

James S

It's emission testing spelled badly [:P]

Emission testing is done as part of a car's tune up. There are so many cars on the road, both new and old that have their engines badly out of tune, including new ones with intelligent emission control systems - simply because one sensor could be sending false readings back to the engine management computer. Out of tune engines pump far more monoxides into the air than their supposed to.

As Jenadots pointed out, until the world's leading oil and chemical companies are made to let go their strangle hold on alternative energy development we'll only continue to see token gestures at viable clean energy sources.

Unfortunately we also tend to see a lot 'environmental' arguments and publicity from the oil companies promoting their totally impractical little solar vehicles. Most people don't realise that solar-electric cells are hideously expensive to produce, the materials needed require mining operations that are dangerous and produce a low yeild for all the effort put in, and these materials then require purification processes that are highly toxic and produce a lot of equally toxic waste.

Even though cold fusion is still the holy grail of energy production, I still don't see why Tokamak fusion reactors aren't being improved upon or put into use more. I know they're expensive to build and run, but no more than fusion reactors by the time you factor in things like the hassles of disposing of the waste.

Regards,
James.

Lol thanks James for fixing my butchering [;)]

there are many different arguments concerning what is the main cause of global warming

Im sure us humans have helped it along however

we are almost certainly screwed, we are doing everything too little too late

if there was a money reason why we should stop global warming, you'd see exxon jumping on it, but since they are money greedy selfish people, we will keep on pumping poisons into our beloved earth

"only when the last tree has been cut down, only when the last fish has been caught and only after the last river has been poisoned , will we discover money cannot be eaten."
opinions are like kittens, just give 'em away

Scientists predicted that in 2050 at least 15% of all species will be extinct and 35% at the worst, due to global warming. Now, this may not be a subject that belongs here but it is some sort of a prophecy so..

I'm not attacking americans but I am attacking the american government because they didn't sign the Kyoto treaty.

I'd like to hear your opinion on this.
