Was this a form of channeling?

Hello again,

I had another experience; this was a few days ago:

I was up later than usual as I had trouble sleeping. As I was surfng the web, I suddenly heard a voice in my head that sounded identical to my late Grandma's. All she said was my name.

Since I didn't know whether to trust it (after all it could be a bad spirit posing as grandma, right?), I immediately got up out of my seat and proceeded to walk away, instantly trying to fill my head with as many other things as possible. I also prayed over and over to be filled with the light, and for Jesus Christ/God to protect me.

What do you think this experience was? What would you call it?

I do want to learn to communicate with spirits, but I don't want to be taken advantage of...

One thing to remember about good spirits, they have patience.  Ask her to come back at another time, and she will.  A NEG usually isn't patient.  NEG's have problems impersonating the higher energy vibrations your grandmother would give off.  The last few NEGs I came across 'looked' like swarms of flies, and didn't have a warm positive feeling the visitors usually have.

A friend from a few years back said there was more than one form of channeling, including one in which you communicate with spirits, but they don't take over your body...they simply come to you...hard to explain I guess...I think she said something about bringing spirits to her...
