UPDATE!

In the paper a few days ago it just came out that NASA is working on some new "mind-reading" technology to help fight the war of terrorism. Supposedly it is  they who are sniffing around Houston asking questions.

Winged_Wolf

So, what?  Everyone should hide?
They've got psychics working for them already, they can find the most talented people more easily using them than they could just by asking people on a board.  How would they know who was for real and who was a psycho, or a braggart? If all the rumors are true, there's nowhere to hide, so your best defense is to be nice and loud so that your disappearance would be harder to account for.

Believe me, NASA has too many budget problems to be spending money on what would seem like "fluff" if the news leaked to the public.  NASA has enough problems justifying their existence as it is!

I was recently offered a job at NASA research center, they were preparing to lay off several research scientists due to impending huge budget cuts. I turned down the job.

I have a hard time buying the idea that NASA is allocating their scarce resources to round up psychics.  It sounds like an urban legend to me.  Winged Wolf has a good point!  If you are "out" in the public in a big noisy way, you are the safest of all.  If you get any guff from the public, you'll have the ACLU and every civil rights attorney in the region offering their services to you for free.

NOT AN URBAN LEGEND:

Also it was on the local Houston news last night.

They're trying to work out some new technology. I'm sure the Government is allocating extra funds to more than a few groups specifically to help fight the terrorists. What they're working on seems really limited, however. I guess they must be looking for ways to make it more accurate. I'm not sure how psychics will fit into their research, but I know for a fact visits have been made to the places the local psychic community hangs out in, and to people I know and love. I have been warned not to talk to anyone if I'm approached. I would love to serve my country. But the last time they did this research they treated the people like experimental lab rats.

Interesting article, but neuro-electric sensing is not new . . . I see a big difference between using a machine to register neurological data, and a psychic actually reading someone's mind from afar without the aid of high-technolgy.  To me, it's a huge leap.

If I were a NASA research scientist, I wouldn't want a psychic messing up the results of a study such as this.  I'd need regular people who respond in ordinary ways.  Otherwise, any products that result from this research wouldn't work with ordinary people.

But let's just say you're right.  In that case, I want to be in that courtroom when the first privacy-invasion case reaches the Supreme Court!

I did not post the link for the purpose of embarrassing you.  It's not about who's "right" or "wrong." I'm a little beyond that type of thinking. Especially in this set of circumstances.

Personally I think they want to observe our brains read minds, so they can program their machines to do the same. God only knows what the government is up to. Certainly not me. Or you, for that matter.

"We're getting closer to reading minds than you might suppose," says Robert Park, a physics professor (Hmmm. A hint?) "It does make me uncomfortable. That's the limit of privacy invasion. You can't go further than that."

A lot of these new homeland protection bills border on privacy invasion. It's a hot topic lately.

Winged_Wolf

I would not be at all concerned about NASA.  I WOULD be concerned about the NSA.

If the Gov't is looking for psychic individuals, they would first look at the men and women already in the service, then ex-military and then civilian individuals.  The Gov't likes to keep everything and everyone they are  envolved with  under their controlling fingers.

McArthur

I personally know two sensitives who have been approached by the US Govmnt to join some kind of psychic project. One is a white witch in NY who i havent heard from in some time, her shaman friend died in mysterious circumstances after saying "No". The other was approached by an official working at a famous US Museum  and was pretty scared for her safety at the time she was telling me about it. She was under the impression that the museum was being used as a front in some way. I see no reason why these people would need to lie about it.

clandestino

Hi McArthur, I'm not convinced that you were told the truth. Unfortunately, some people lie about things, even when it appears that they have no reason to !!

I don't think that these people are always lying on purpose - But there are several mental illnesses that cause people to lie for no apparent reason.

Leyla..." "We're getting closer to reading minds than you might suppose," says Robert Park, a physics professor "

I could substitute ANY science-fiction for "reading minds" in the statement above ....and the statement would still be true !!!! now i'm not saying that reading minds won't be possible..perhaps it will. All I'm saying is that the facts are that decoding the electrical signals in our brains to read the output is not currently possible. At the cutting edge of technology, we can biologically interface a person with a computer, and they can use their will-power to move a mouse cursor. I'm afraid that if you think that technology has advanced far beyond that, then you are deluding yourself.

I'll Name You The Flame That Cries

Leyla

I don't see why a physics professor working for NASA would feel the need to lie to a  Washington Post reporter.

My god, we can hook human minds up to computers to control them with our thoughts?!?!

If the technology has already gone that far I can't imagine what it is they're cooking up now. Scary.

I wasn't trying to brag when I made this post. I just happen to be in Houston right where the action is. Such jealous hostility is really uncalled for.

Tracy

Leyla,  I am glad that you kept us up on the latest news.  I say better to be informed than in the dark!  I am learning that the impossible is always trying to be broken.  I don't think that occurances should be ignored because they are just to bizare. Look at what we are accomplishing and the negativity that others have towards it for they have closed minds.

hey leyla...it sounds very scary that the government would do something like that...but it is also believable....there's no telling what the government knows and does behind the public's back...there are plenty of things that the government does and no one ever finds out about...i'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but you never know! so it's always good to somewhat pay attention to warnings.

Hi readers,

Yes, the governemnt of the United States has done research on this subject  and why not? It would be greatly advantagous to everyone if we didn't have to worry about the Other Guys secret weapons stash or whatever. My friend saw on major network tv a former CIA agent on the airaying that it was easy to do but that numbers and map locations were useless and it was disbandoned. Then, i read a book, Why People Believe Weird Thingsy a PHD in psychologythat repeated it some where in its 300 some odd pages. He even gave the amount they spent on it in there. He isa major skeptic in the area. Most of the research in this area had little to do with astral travel/OBE and covered many other subjects.

Below is a book I am thinking about ordering from Amazon.com

But, my personal opinion of this and of the link that was included:  What this machine would do as I see it, is monitor peoples brain waves looking for consistances that are relative to how their studies might show people's waves would be if they were thinking of a specific subject or along a certain line.  That is not the same as reading someones mind.  This is more along the lines of saying someones brainwaves might look a certain way if they were sneaky, being evasive, lying...ect... as in a polygraph test.

For a machine to actually read someones mind and know their actual thoughts as in a language format and be exact, FIRST it would have to know an entire language based on electrical impulses through physical imputs put in our brain through our actions and translate that into actual words.  We can't do that...   All we can do is look at brain wave activity as it relates to activies.. and by activies I mean verbs, actions.. ie lying, cheating, stealing, moving, riding, flying, resting and so on... But they could not tell or know between someone waves that were lying about cheating on a test or lying about cheating at the grocery store check out line.  Lying is simply lying..  I would think these tests would be very generalized in what they could do... There are so many lanuguages.  Is this machine going to be able to translate them all as people pass through airports?? Personally I don't think so... I mean can dream specialists tell by your waves that you are flying or only that you are in REM stage of sleep.. And if they can tell you are flying, did they deduct these wave patterns on their own or AFTER someone told them they were flying in a dream so they had a comparison for future subjects?? You gotta have something to compare it to is my point.  But  even with the knowledge of what brainwaves might look like as we fly...would they be able to tell the destination of the flight?  That is the translation of waves into words.. It won't happen in my opinion.. Relax is the word of the day...  Slow them waves down...  But anyway, this book below looks interesting...  And please these are just my thoughts and the gov is grasping... they are running out of straws more than likely.. And remember, newpapers are in the business of selling papers...

Book Description
PSI SPIES: THE BOOK THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT WANT YOU TO SEE!

Jim Marrs' investigation into the secret remote viewing programs conducted by the CIA and U.S. Army is finally revealed in Psi Spies.

In the early 1990's, following the success of Crossfire and Alien Agenda, Jim Marrs set out to expose yet another government coverup. Originally titled "The Enigma Files," Marrs' new book detailed the activities of the U.S Army and CIA in training soldiers and spies in the use of psychic abilities. The publisher received advance orders for The Enigma Files from around the world. Meanwhile, the U.S. government agencies publicly issued denials that such programs ever existed. As the release date neared, Marrs' editor mysteriously disappeared, apparently relocated to somewhere outside of the United States. What followed was an attempt by his new editor to coerce Jim to rewrite the book in a FICTIONAL setting, a request that Marrs flatly refused to honor. This ended the publishing deal, thus delaying the book's publishing indefinitely. That is, until now! Retitled "Psi Spies", the details of the government's espionage efforts using psychic warriors.

Interestingly, the CIA ultimately admitted to funding psychic research later in Congressional hearings, although they downplayed the importance of the program. Uhh, right.

About the Author
Veteran Dallas journalist Jim Marrs earned national acclaim with his book Crossfire, (later a basis for Oliver Stone's film JFK). He is also the author of Alien Agenda and Rule By Secrecy. He lives in Texas.

I would take the job, and invite inquiries made to my listed E-mail address, reachable at the top of the message. Afterall, good energies can only yield good results in the long run.

Look inquisitively, and you will see many astral watchers (machines made of thought energy.) They are programmed to relay what they see, only upon seeing something of interest. It's that old security camera issue: either wear a cloak, or don't do anything bad.

Leyla

Mayhaps this is all paranoia, but a friend and fellow reader/psychic/astral traveler said it was known that the Gov. was sniffing about our local community here in Houston looking for people to train and use for special war programs; and that several people we know were being approached and questions asked. I was warned that they inject participants in these programs with drugs and many wind up losing their minds. This has a lot of us frightened, and the word is out around here amongst the psychic community not to talk to any government men.
I was wondering if anyone had thought about the dangers a board like this might present for the government to locate and perhaps forcibly snatch clairvoyants.
