If that's the case, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to say, "Hey, cover your eyes, dude!"

Just buy a bandana, or one of these eye-covering thingies that people wear at night.

If it's THAT dark where you can't even tell if your eyes are open or closed, then if you're tired, you WILL go to sleep.  Unless you're focusing too much on your eyes.  But if you focus too much on anything, even the fact of TRYING to go to sleep, then it will keep you up.

try poking your eyes. that will let you know if they are open or closed . or turn on a small light so that you can know that your eyes are closed.

what i don't understand is: why can't you go to sleep if you don't know whether your eyes are open or not?
