Well once you establish Yes and No, you ask Yes or No questions.  That's pretty much it.

psaunder,

The Pendulum works. Mayatnik's thread is at http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5116
The Pendulum helped me find some inportant papers that had been lost for about a year.
Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.

There is a difference in knowing the path and walking the path.-

I also had sucess when i tried the Mayatnik suggested. My pendulum seems to work, and it will respond to questiosn, read through the thread again im pretty sure it says soemthing about how heavy the thing you put on the end of the string ahs to be, maybe its too heavy, but congrats on your newly found psychich abilities.

Hello psaunder,
In regards to developing your psychic abilities, I would try just practicing clockwise and counterclockwise for a while.  I started off using the pendulum with finding my Yes and No, but I got bored with it.  So I started manipulating it by getting it rotating clockwise and then switch to the opposite during it's rotation.  It's good mental practice.  I try this on a lot of other things, ones that hang freely and can spin.  Today I was in a store and I noticed a gothic-like chandalier (dont know if that's spelled right).  It had a lot of character to it, and it had candles on it instead of light bulbs, so I guess it was pretty old-school.  Anyway, I noticed it was slightly rotating counterclockwise, so I visualized it moving faster in that direction.  It started to pick up speed, so I gave myself another test.  I tryed to reverse it's rotation, so I visualized it moving clockwise.  The chandalier slowed and started going the other way.  It was a strange experience.  It also could have been complete coincidence. So I guess my point is to practice these movements with the pendulum, and it will start responding better.  Also, try practicing this on various other things.  Different types of metals have stronger or weaker responses.
good luck,

Hello Patrick,

congratulations for discovering this ability. But I'd suggest you seperate between the pendulum and moving things with your mind. Train this ability if you want to, could be very interesting. The pendulum should move on it's own, though. I'm sure it will work for you if you try different lengths and weights, holding it relaxed in front of your breastbone, only the elbow rested on the table.. it should be no big problem to get it to swing if you ask it nicely ;)

Maybe you need a thinner thread or less weight - experiment, you will see what works best for you. Feel free to ask if problems arise, and share your experiences!

Good luck,
 Edi

PS: first psychic experience? Every day on earth is a psychic experience! Just think of it [;)]

Hello everyone,

We were taught this technique in our Hypnosis School.
Chevreul's Pendulum

Whenever your mind focuses exclusively on a single thought or idea, your body responds. Dr H. Bernheim called this an "ideomotor response". The Pendulum is a biofeedback device that augments such unconscious micro-muscular responses to make them easily visible.

1.      Hold Pendulum between thumb and forefinger (see picture).

2.      Keep your hand still. Feel it getting still.

3.      Now concentrate, think of the pendulum swinging back and
forth. Backwards and forwards. Back and forth. Keep your hand
still and just focus your mind.

4.     [Repeat step 3 until you start to see a response].

5.      That's Right! You see how quickly your mind wants to respond!

The pendulum soon swings in the direction the subject is focusing on. This is a very simple, yet powerful, test. While your attention is drawn into focusing on the thoughts to move the pendulum, you can make suggestions that they are responding to you more and more fully. The more they respond to one set of suggestions, the more they will respond to the suggestions you piggy-back off of them.

Try it for yourself. Remember to fully visualise/believe the outcome you are looking for to ensure you communicate with conviction. This is a natural phenomenon which will occur exactly as described to the extent that someone focuses exclusively on the thoughts, images and/or sensations of the pendulum swinging in any given direction.

Alternatively do it on yourself. Hold the pendulum as in step one, clear your mind and vividly imagine the pendulum moving forwards and backwards. Keep only that thought in your mind and soon enough you will see the pendulum move!

Historical Note:
It is important to realise that this phenomenon is nothing occult or paranormal. It is merely the way an ordinary, healthy mind tends to work. Michel Eugene Chevreul was the first modern scientist to "discover" that the pendulum's motion was simply an ideodymanic response. At the turn of the 19th century there was much interest in dowsing pendulums for finding water. This interest was taken to one extreme by a Professor Gerboin of Strasbourg, who attempted to use them to analyse chemicals. In 1812 Chevreul researched this phenomenon and discovered that suspending a pendulum over a bowl of mercury would indeed cause the pendulum to move "spontaneously". This reaction was absent when a plate of glass was placed between the bowl and the pendulum. To eliminate operator error, he conducted a double blind trial, where an assistant would remove and replace the glass plate without his knowledge. When he did this, there was no reaction at all in the pendulum. Thus Chevreul concluded that the phenomenon was caused by involuntary muscle movements of the hand induced by the operators own mental processes. That means that a thought or idea will cause tiny micro-muscular movements to occur. This is picked up and amplified by the pendulum (or dowsing stick or any other device you happen to be using) to produce this astonishing effect.

I hope this helps and explains the pendulum process.

Sincerely, Frank (hypnotist)

I believe our subconscious mind is a lot wiser that our conscious mind. And the pendulum is an easy way to get access to this wisdom. It is commonly known in psychology that the conscious mind can only process a limited amount of data (7 points of data I believe). But the subconscious mind does not have the burden of verbal comunication, which is somewhat limiting. Therefore it can store and process huge amounts of data and obtain it from many other sources other than our limited five sences. Psychic abilities are only the ability to perceive and process more information than the conscious mind can. This can be manifested in the form of instinct, visions and dreams.

And about it being a channeling instrument, it is possible that the entities in question use our subconscious mind to communicate via the pendulum. My personal opinion is that it has more to do with our own ability to obtain information from our enviorment at different levels of our existence, i.e. physical, mental, spiritual, astral, Akashic, etc.

I have done some experimenting with the pendulum and was initially very impressed. I picked up a random bunch of paperclips three separate times and, while holding them, asked it if I had an odd/even number. The first time it answered all three times correctly. The next day I repeated the experiment --  it answered all three times wrong! No statistical significance here so far. So I decided to see if I could get it to just indicate Yes or No while my eyes were closed. Nothing (that spaghetti analogy would be appropriate). I can only conclude that any results we get with the pendulum are, as Frank says, the mind leading the body -- nothing paranormal about it.

That being said, I have had a few telepathic experiences that convince me our minds are capable of communicating over distance. Example: one weekend I had a very vivid dream in which my boss and some friends were unloading bags of feed from a pickup and my boss hurt his knee. The next Monday I went into his office and casually asked if he had by any chance hurt his knee over the weekend. I thought this would just be an ideal time to verify that the dream was just that. His response, "How did you know that!?" as he got up and limped around the edge of his desk. It seems my dream was right on target except they were unloading rather than loading the bags of feed (he said it was deer corn they were moving to be ready for deer season). I can't explain it. I don't know how I did it. And I don't know which of us was more surprised! But that's why I am still interested in the metaphysical field. But I don't believe it's aliens -- I think this is a natural ability we just don't quite know how to use yet.

What's beginning to discourage me about this site is the number of people posting on it that I know are just blowing smoke. I think a lot of them are kids and they think it's cute. But Man, we are missing a golden opportunity to really compare notes here!

Congrats on your new ability. When I hear about other people it gives me hope. [|)]

Hello to all,
I'm not really sure where to start with this, as I can proudly say I have had _my_ first verifiable psychic experience!

I have been visiting these forums, and others for approx 2 years now and have a great deal of appreciation of the knowledge presented here, and am interested in experimenting and learning. The only fly in the ointment is that up until know, I have been relying upon other people's verification - the difference between licking a picture of an icecream vs the real thing IMO.

Well, lucky me, I came across the introduction to the Pendulum by, Mayatnik , in the 'Astral Consiousness' forum, so very excitedly I created my first pendulum out of shoe string and 2cm bolt.

Imagine me sitting there on the first night, saying "Go pendulum!" , "Show me YES, please", "Show me NO, please" , but all to no avail, my pendulum hung like overcooked spaghetti.

Not to be put off, the next day I sat down and talked to (through) my pendulum again, but this time I relaxed & concentrated, and what I observe is that my Pendulum starts swinging, but only when I push it with my mind! The short version of this story is that I can make my Pendulum swing front/back , left/right or even around in circles though to this point, though have not had any responses to questions from it!

So, my dissapointment at not having a responding pendulum is greatly dimminished at my excitement of manipulating using newly found PSI ability. Question is, what steps are suggested to begin receiving communication through my pendulum?

Thanks for listening,

Regards,

Pat Saunders.
