Universe is not irrational, it just doesn't make sense. [:D]

I think universe is rational but it appears irrational or chaotic when perceived from a agains a limited frame of reference.

Hmm yeah allright me too think that we are limited in our senses so the universe appears irrational.
But u can still make a whole theory about it and make it work because we can't see the rest.

Ok admit..stupid topic...THIS ONE CAN BE CLOSED

the universe is many things depending on the event one is referencing: at times it can be orderly, at others chaotic. sometimes it appears to be karmic, at others completely indifferent. one moment it can be as clear as a bell and the next as confusing and "absurd" as abstract art, it can be energized and full of life in one place but sleepy and restful in another [|)]. the universe encompasses much, imo [:)].

Normal irrational is different from math irrational. PI is not normal irrational. It can be described exactly by summations.

need

I don't now about Pi but isn't irrationality part of what makes this life work rationally. The Universe seems to be lots of things along with irrational and rational .

beavis

Obviously we dont understand most things in the universe. That makes many rational things look irrational.

Pi is een irrational number right...so you can only aprroach the number and never get the whole number. So is pi infinite?
Does irrational also means infinite?
Pi is a number that comes up everywhere in physics and maths.

What do you think of the idea that you can compare the whole,...the all-entity...the universe...all the energy or wathever you want to call it, with PI!

IS THE UNIVERSE IRRATIONAL?

Judging by that quote, it's a wonder your brain hasn't out-grown your skull.
That's a genius statement and I like it.  I think it's pretty odd how Pi revolves around everything too.

Ybom

I tend to think of pi as "the root of the circle", personally. Pi is all handy-dandy nice, but you must realize that kakkarot described what you should focus as the relating force. Everything anyone could ever possibly think of or do is within grasp of the universe. This means that it relates to every possible equation and action available to you and everything else you can think of. What I'm saying here is if the universe were a person, calling it pi would be an insult to it's intelligence. I could just as easily say that the sine wave relates everything in the universe to each other, but I'm not going to go there.
I come prepared...with COOKIES! No, you can't have one!

Arcane

hmm Quantum Physics. Matter is energy, energy is matter.

Hang on Ybom. Everything in the universe can be descibed as sine waves (Fourier analysis)

volcomstone

Everything in the universe can be descibed as sine waves (Fourier analysis)

very true particle/wave duality-

but a universe shouldnt be described by arbritrary numbers like pi

I've got a feeling that the value of pi varies in different universes anyhow, I also think that pi can vary within our own universes, singularitys etc.,

If a circle is piR squared and a sphere is piR cubed, what would piR to the 4 power look like?

hypercubes (4 dimensional cubes) are a bit easier to grasp, but a 4th dimensional sphere is something to ponder.
opinions are like kittens, just give 'em away

Arcane

4th dimensional sphere? I can't even begin to imagine that. Could be the cause of a future headache

Yes offcourse you can describe pi by summations and describe it by a equation...everything can by described by a summation with physics. But can you also resolve the sollution?

Without a sollution you haven't got much..only the summations.
And pi is irrational...a summation you can only approach but never get the real sollution....(right?)

no, i haven't had the chance to see any of them yet :/ . but it is a nice site, one place for lots of info on a variety of topics :)

kakkarot

well, i've now seen the first hour and the first two videos of the second hour, and i would like to reiterate that it is a good site. thanks tony :)
