Maybe somebody was trying to talk to her and she's trying to figure out what it is.

Have you asked her what it is like for her when this happens? As far as whether it is self induced or comes from an outside source could only be felt by her..I have a bit of a "shine" to me, I guess you could say, and I've ALWAYS been able to tell when something is "not from me" in dreams, while awake and coming across presences..maybe you could ask her to describe one of these experiances, come back and tell us what she said, and we can go from there. :)
my girl friend is psychic as am i (but in a diffrent way)and alot of times she will just stop walking and stand still then her pupils will get tiny and she will look like she is in a trance. can some one explain if this is an outside force or self induced?
