People still believe?

I dont believe it and never really did. Many of these myths seem to fade out with passing time. Im sure that some people out there hold strong to this beliefe though.

I was thinking that the fad would be over in 2013, but since end of world predictions have been going on since just after Jesus was crucified, I'm sure that even if one prediction fades away, some nutbag is bound to come along and get another one started.

This constant fixation on end of the world prophecies reminds me of the nonsense I had to deal with when I was a Jehovahs Witness.  People tend to want a quick fix to everything.  Even if some sudden planetary revolution did come, I doubt that those who had been looking forward to it would be happy with the chaos and suffering it would bring into their lives.

I was just checking out the ZetaTalk yesterday, just to see "whats new", and man...I don't think I've ever read anything so ridicuous.  I had thought that the site would have stopped updating and trying to prove Planet X's existance... but alas, they are still up and running.
I believe the site is a living testament to how desperate the human mind wants quick solutions to long problems.  Sigh... I hope people will just make up their own minds about the whole deal, and choose the one that makes sense [:)]

People want some big thing to happen and change their lives simply becuase they are LAZY! Ive learned that rarely something comes into your life and makes it better, those should be looked at as rare gifts. If they want change, they should go out and make it happen.

oh didn't you hear the newest? my bf was watching Nova today, and they were talking about the magnetic field of the earth reversing itself (south becomes magnetic north and vice versa). This would cause things like higher cancer rates and such, but is considered a pole shift - which is what Nibiru was supposed to do.

*gasp*
maybe THAT is what planet X really is!!! a magnetic pole-shift!!!
*faints*

Yerzak06

How would that affect cancer rates. The only conclusion I would come to is a pole shift can dramatically chance weather and climate patterns.

theoretically a pole shift could be catastrophic, the only cause for such a thing to happen would be if the core of the earth stoped rotating and changed direction/

however fossils in rocks, and alignments of ferromagnetic particles in sediments  show strong evidence that a pole shift Had already happened in the past.  Im not sure if they where able to correspond that with a mass extinction or not, Im not sure anyone has tried.

but yeah HUGE storms would happen, we'd probally see aurora borealis (northern lights) all over the world, electronic devices would probally fail, including satelites (also protected by magnetic field)
atmospheric instabilities would cause crazy weather conditions all over the world, and im sure many migratory animals would get lost.

also a theory that the increased energy in our atmosphere might be transfered to the earth by lots of lightning, Im saying like 100-1000 hits per square kilometer.

there are 'holes' in the magnetic field at the north and south poles - hence the Aurora that appear there. Anyways, they say that when the magnetic poles shift they will cause more of these 'holes' to appear before the poles reach their final destination - resulting in more radiation reaching the planet and higher cancer rates.

I dont think you understood my question, i realize that it would change the earth, but how could it affect a disease such as cancer.

volcomstone

radiation from the sun damages our genes- of which the result can be a mutation in two types of genes;

the control gene stops the cell from dividing too much, if this is damaged the cell divides uncontrollably=cancer

the divide gene stimulates the cell to divide, if this is turned on too much, and in the absence of the control gene =cancer

if there is more radiation from the sun passing through the atmosphere and hitting our skin, that means more gene damage. that means more chance of cancer.

simple huh?

Personally, if the planet nibiru idea is to believed, it should be taken note that it will most likely be a metaphorical planet or some sort.  To physically think that a planet would come to "save" us?  Sounds a bit familiar huh... reminds me of those cults...

Anyway, it's physicall impossible, and implausible for such an event to occur.  And thats where the answer is, that it will never actually happen, but metaphysically.

so, is this the thread for debunking what people say?
Cause if it is, let me ask all of you some questions.

1) Why the hell are you discussing something or putting any time into a subject you find to be ridiculous?
2) How is it people such as yourselves who attempt to give reason to aspects of clouded topics of which are in this forum, do so in a fashion which very much gives your own sense of purpose a more noble and realistic deed (at least attempting to do so for all those whose subjects discussed are those of which you are ridiculing)?
3) It seems a sense of logical intelligence radiates here, yet no sense of hope. Dont any of you hope for something? None of you believe in prophecy or fate? What about free will? This I am interested in hearing because many people in these forums discuss all these subjects in a sense that we "Will" be subjected to a future either they know about basically killing off the notion that we have any free will beyond that of making the choices on a band that cycles into the same ending.

Perhaps that is my interest here. I have some hope that one or two of these silly butt bs ideas come to light because I live in a partial fantasy world, but I also attempt to find the answer to whether or not I truly have choice in my life, and whether any of the choices I make will lead anywhere besides toward the same end.

FYI - I find most of the topics to be discussed here contrived from childrens or comic books so its hard for me to take any of them seriously, but that doesnt take away from the fact that I would like and sometimes even hope they happen.
Its not about easy solutions or some prophetic event that circulates the idea that we all out of nowhere understand the universe. Its just hope for proof that we are more than just a clockwork orange.

1)  I started this topic to see if the fad had ended or not.  Actually, hoping to find out that people had come to their senses, or had taken a more realistic look to the subject.

2)  Not quite sure how to answer this question.  But if I get the gist of what you're asking, then I might say that giving reason to such a topic SHOULD have people thinking about the other side of the spectrum.  Understand that I don't totally dismiss that a planet named "Nibiru" might come and change this world.  But that my reasoning outweighs my wishful thinking/fantastical views.

3)  Hope.  Do I hope that this world will transcend its materialistic and corrupt views?  Yes.  Do I hope there will be something to save us?  Yes.  Do I hope for an easy way out?  Yes, but in reality, there is never a shortcut.  "There are no such thing as free lunches."  I do believe in free will, but it would take me too many words to describe my view, and even then I doubt I could give a satisfactory explanation.

Essentially, we all live in a fantasy world.  But it is all about how much of this fantasy world will one believe, and how much of this fantasy world one will dismiss.  More importantly, is the journey to proving it to ONESSELF, being able to say, "Yes, that is what I believe, and I have taken into account other views, but this one makes the most sense to me."

And of course, I type these responses for my entertainment [:)].

Niburiu was full of crap sense the beging but Don't you think a post deicated to how the prophecies are wrong is the same thing as when people were trying to prove them right.

James if I remeber correctly you closed those topics. However now you are particpating in the same action only on the other side.

Just thought it might be something to think about.

Clow, this topic was seeing if people still believed it.  Notice how the topic title said "Do people stil believe?" and not "Nibiru BS".

Clow

Its just this seems like a repeat of what happened a while ago only on a lesser scale only wanted to point it out.

Do people still believe that Planet X or Nibiru will still come?  Or has the fad died out?
