HMMM...   I know just about nothing on this subject.[?]

Perhaps you should try asking some of the people down at the Astral Consciousness sector.

all i know about meditation is this

'You do not need to leave your room.
Remain sitting at your table and listen.
Do not even listen, simply wait.
Do not even wait, be quiet, still and solitary.
The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked.
it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.'
- Franz Kafka

I believe that meditation can be very useful for someone practising TK, but actually I believe every person could benefit from it. Meditation can improve your concentration, therefore improve your results with TK. It also 'resets' your energy level after lots of practising, which can really drain you.

So what is meditation exactly, and how do I do it?

Relaxing your mind and body and freeing them of unnecessary thoughts and brainactivity. First of all you should find a quiet place where you can sit or lie down comfortably. To get your mind free of thoughts, it might be usefull to focus on an object. This focus can be on your breath, a word you keep repeating, sensations of the body, of even your thoughts. You could also focus on your senses. When you smell, feel, listen or taste you escape from your thoughts and come back into the moment. Try not to put away or suppress your thoughts, fighting to get your mind clear has nothing to do with relaxing. The object you focus on will be the only thing on your mind as all other things dissapear to the background.   When you get distracted you try to focus again on your object. This could happen regularly, but will slowly fade away after more meditation.

It is known that meditation, if done right, can give you more relaxation than a deep sleep.

There are many 'deeper' kinds of meditation, which are more like a state of trance, in which you are not alert and aware of your surroundings. When meditating 'normally' you are.

Many people feel that meditation has helped them greatly with their spiritual development.

Don't do, just be.

what does that mean anyways?

being is doing.

trancendental meditation is the use of a mantra to achieve a meditative state.  (using some form of mentally vocalized affirmation, such as saying peace or love repeatedly...)

trance meditation is just a deeper state of the meditation process, when certain nerves (proprioreceptors) in your body shut off and stop relaying information to your brain about body position.

hum... thanks a lot for all your replys...

to kairi :

i hope that is really true, as indeed one of the things i am pratising is PK, but please tell me this :

Meditation "ENABLES" pk or "IMPROVE" pk ? I ask this because as i don't have results in pk, even after several weeks of practise, i wonder if my problem is not concentration, but a VERY WEAK communication with my subconcious, as i could never do that, not even with visualization. In hope that the exercice of syncronizing the 2 brain hemispheres helps on this, as nothing else was worked for me, as even psiballs i can't do, altough i can do n.e.w. but i just physical sensations, and they are always the same even if i practise n.e.w. frequently.

Also can you tell me why everytime i focus on my breath i almost instantly feel in need of hyperventilating all the time ? That's weird, i think i breath in the same way that when i am not aware of it, and yet, just being aware of it makes me tired and needing of hyperventilating. Could this be any indication of a blocked solar plexus chakra, or just coincidence ?

to MoonBurn33 :

oh, thanks a lot, hum... so that's what is trance meditation... indeed i thinked that trance meditation was exactly that, but i just needed a confirmation.

Indeed when i meditate or practise self-hypnosis, i can reach the point of not feeling some parts of my body anymore, it's exactly like if i "forgot" where they are touching, it's a weird sensation, altough it takes a lot of time to appear sometimes. The last time that happened it happened in my whole belly but only on the front. Is this kind of "no body sensation" that it's required for astral projection ? If so, then i am having progress in relaxation.

Altough i am not interested in transcendental meditation, trance meditation seems better to me.

What I have done over the years is to try different meditation techniques. That included TM (transcendental meditation) back in the '70's and Zen meditation in the '90's, as well as a few others.

The common theme is to 'empty the mind' of random thoughts, and listen to the stillness. There are a number of methods to get to the still mind. Some use a mantra, others do some counting (to ten and back again), and in zen we 'followed the breath' as we breathed in and out.

Those are a few brief comments, however there is a great little book on zen meditation, called Taking the Path of Zen by Robert Aitken. While it is only a little over a hundred pages, it gives a great summary and 'how to' in Chapter 2 on doing zen meditation.

Very best,
Nick

    Hey,
I'm pretty much off/on on meditation, but when I was 17 I had a "void" experience in which I entered this place that was totally dark, silent, and full of everything at the same time.
This female oversoul (or so it seemed) greeted me, and began to explain time and death to me, and how whenever you are dead, from this timeless state, life is like a dream. She asked me if I would like to stay with her , and I declined, because I knew if I merged with her, I would totally die. I still do not know what she is.
Lately since ive taken up meditation again, my body will loose all sensation, its not like numbness but almost like my brain doesnt register that it's there. It's actually kind of peaceful. One weird thing that I noticed though, is that when I was doing it and got up rather quickly my eyes had trouble focusing. I also realized my eyes had been open for about twenty minutes and I had not blinked the entire time. Weird.
After about a week or so of regular meditation I had a lucid dream. If you are interested you can read about it in the "dream" category.

A drug user on erowid.com underneath the influence of Ketamine recorded a nearly identical experience with this spirit.
I neither take drugs nor did I know this woman at the same time.

hypnotist

Hi everyone,

IM hypnotist on Astral Pulse, I'm a Certified Advanced Hypnotist.
There are 4 Brain Waves, Beta which is the Conscious State, then Alpha which is a light Meditative State, then Theta State which is Hypnosis or Somnambulism or Lucid Dreaming which has (5 levels) in it.

1. Somnambulism, 2. Deep Somnambulism, 3. Esdaile State, 4. Catatonic State, 5 Ultra Depth or Sichort State.

Everyone gets confused with the word Meditation.  Meditation is in Alpha and Meditation is in Theta.

A lot of people try to explain how to achieve a meditative state but only tell the basics.

A Certified Hypnotist is train'd to take a person into those state easily and quickly and even go beyond those state to a much deeper level then before.

I did several hypnosis session on paltalk live on the computer in Penny's room.  She is a Nationally Renown Psychic and she does a lot of meditations.

She was will to try a session on line.  When it was over she told everyone on line that she went to a deeper level then she has ever been before.  She was amazed at how deep she went. I gave her a keyword so when she want to return to that same deep relax state again she can by thinking that keyword.  She tried it on line and she went back into that deep state again in seconds.

You can contact me hear on Astral Pulse under hypnotist or e-mail me at hypnotist41@aol.com

If anyone is interested in trying it out on line and even on aol, yahoo or MSN on those instant messengers let me know or on paltalk in a group session let me know.

Hear from you soon

Sincerely,
Frank

this meditation is a really confusing thing to many. maditation is this, meditation is that. the thing is, people call anything from light relaxion to deep trance meditation. and unfortunately people sit down for sometime, very keen on learning how to meditate. most likely they experience something, maby a pink elephant that they see, and those pink elefants become meditation. "ohh! come sweet elephant!
where did you go? sweeeeet eeeeleeephanttt..." , or this or that state of mind becomes the goal...

seeing elephants is not very useful, but a blank mind could be!
maby its relaxing you. or you can use it for getting better at this or that.

i myself practise vipassana meditation and i so much want to tell about it, it means so much to me. for me vipassana is the only proper use of this blank mind, or concentration. but unfortunately for us all, this is the wrong forum to go into detail on this.
it seemd so strange to me in the beginning, that the ten day courses that are arranged almost in every country is free from charge. its not a sect, its not a belief. but i can see why that is now...

have a nice day and send a message if you are interested

I wonder how it's done "trance meditation" (just like Robert Bruce recommends on N.e.w.)  and "Transcendental Meditation" and also which is the difference between them. I have of course tried a google search, but i don't have much time to be on the internet (i don't have internet at home) and besides i only find those words in descriptions of books and i won't (and i can't afford) buy any books, specially if there is simple techniques for free on websites, and also i would spend money without any garantee that it would work for me.

So, anyone can please tell me how to do each one of the two kinds of meditations that i said ? Or at least to indicate me some links of websites that have articles about that ? I tought that meditation was just being with eyes closed and try to void all toughts, so what is these two kinds of meditation ?
