Ring of Light when I close my eyes

Ok, this is kind of hard for me to explain what I'm talking about but I'll try. When I close my eyes, either meditating or just trying to go to sleep I will sometimes see a ring of light, similar to an afterimage of something. Like where you stare at something that is black, then close your eyes you will see pretty much that shape in white. The strange thing is this ring always seems to be contracting to a ball, then disappearing.

Now there are occasions where I will try to focus as best as possible to try and make it different shapes, or to see if I can keep the ball that the ring focuses into from disappearing by concentrating on it. I can usually get the ball of light to stay in sight for a second or two longer but that's it. Once I thought that I made the ring of light into what seemed like flapping wings... but I haven't been able to do anything like that anymore.

I really don't know how to explain it, most likely its simply some type of eye problem, but I thought I would see what you all think about it. So if anybody has any ideas what it may be, I'm open to suggestions.

I get that sometimes, but it seems like a result of tensing my eyes. Still, it does seem to contract and warp if I go into a deeper state
